Containment Review: Be Angry at the Sun (Season 1 Episode 3)

Containment, Reviews

We’re picking up steam, everyone!

We are picking up the pace, and the stakes, in this week’s episode of Containment entitled, “Be Angry at the Sun.”

Firstly, I think it’s incredibly important to point out that I absolutely love that all the episodes are named after a quote said by a philosopher because it alludes to the fact that the situation these people are in is not black and white.

Isn’t that what philosophers do, make you question everything? Paint black and white arguments grey?

And that’s exactly what happens in this episode – a lot of questioning.

One of the biggest seeds planted this episode is asked by our local blogger, Leo Green. Can we trust the government in times of a crisis?

Honestly, right now, the answer is no.

Sabine wiping out all the power and internet is making me question her motives. Something has seemed incredibly off about her; first and foremost, she’s incredibly unlikable. Nothing about Sabine makes me want to care for her, or root for her- ever.

But it’s also how calm she is, and how quickly she was brought in. And of course we have Katie’s observation skills that point out the order in which the affected died in.

So, conspiracy theory alert!

I think the Syrian man didn’t bring this into America.

Firstly, it would be so politically incorrect to have a CW show make that statement. Secondly, it’s too easy of a blame. I think the American government is starting to test bio-weapons.

I’m not exactly sure why; there must be other ways to test such horrible things aside from on your own people.

But could it be population control? Could it be to start another war?

What I’m trying to say is that this isn’t some huge accident. I think this virus was dropped on purpose by our government.

Wouldn’t a great way to cover all this up be to cut the internet and phone line?

Yes.

Yes it would.

Katie was on the right track; people are starting to see what little authority there is in the cordon. At least before they had the news, they had updates on what was going on outside, what steps were being taken to stop this virus.

Now with the Internet and phone lines cut – with no connection to the outside word – only 10 cops in the cordon (after one quit), I can only imagine there will be chaos.

One thing I do think that may come of this is Jake’s realization that he’s more than just a screw up, or a lazy cop. It doesn’t hurt that Katie tells him that she would bet on him, but maybe this crisis will allow him to really take control.

He doesn’t have Lex to hold his hand anymore.

He has to do this on his own, which will probably be one of the best underdog stories the CW has seen in a while.

All in all, I think Containment has figured out what’s working for them and, “Be Angry At The Sun,” proves that.

It’s going to be exciting, and even nerve-wracking, to see how these small acts of rebellion on Day 3 lead to the utter chaos we’ve seen on Day 13. But by the looks of it this will escalate quickly.
