Tell-Tale TV Picks of the Week: Richard Castle, Murphy, and Darryl Whitefeather Are Our Characters of the Week

Tell-Tale TV Picks of the Week

This week on TV, Suits, Agent Carter, and The Shannara Chronicles wrapped up their seasons, while Blindspot resumed it’s twisted, tatted tale. Josh and Rebecca finally kissed on Crazy Ex-Girlfriend, while Clarke and Lexa had sex, and that’s how The 100 ended. Nothing else happened. NOTHING.

Below, some of our writers discuss moments from this week in TV.

Character of the Week

Lauren: Can Ezra Fitz from Pretty Little Liars please take a bow? His former girlfriend, and now co-writer, is in the hospital having just been burned by one of A’s stunts. Of course he doesn’t know that it’s A and thinks the fireplace in the tricked out loft malfunctioned. What does he do when he gets the news? He brings her a set of clothes and reading material, and then he reads to her about incorporating bold patterns. Isn’t that what love is?

Christine: Darryl Whitefeather on Crazy Ex-Girlfriend, hands down. I’ve loved the entire storyline that revealed that he is bi-sexual and that he has a crush on White Josh. It’s been handled with honest sensitivity and lovely humor. Darryl seems to have found a newfound freedom in his sexuality, and I like that the show has chosen not make his new sexual identity a huge source of confusion or shame. Darryl seems genuinely happy now that he understands who he is with clarity, and White Josh is an excellent partner for him on this journey. Bravo to the writers at Crazy Ex-Girlfriend and to Pete Gardner for bringing it to life!

Lizzie: LL Cool J as Sam Hanna, on NCIS: LA. Look, Sam had a rough week. He’s a softie trapped in the body of a linebacker. We all know that. But he’s also smart, capable and loyal to a fault, so nothing that happened in this episode was a surprise. The only thing I was surprised about is how much I enjoyed it.

Lyra: Leonard Snart aka Captain Cold on Legends of Tomorrow. He had to face the fact that he’s not the same man from when he started on this journey. He’s grown to want more from this world than petty theft and a giant score. He wants to be a Legend. In acknowledging that he put himself at odds with his closest ally since he was a kid. Do I think he killed his partner? No. Do I think he has a boat load of issues that he’s starting to work his way through to discover who he is? Yes. It’s been an interesting journey so far and I can’t wait to see more.

Ashley: Richard Castle. I think this week’s episode of Castle proved what a likeable, trustworthy character he can be. He was able to rally a whole group of people together for an elaborate scheme, all in the name of doing what is right. Plus, he pretended to be a French-Canadian ESL student, which was hilarious.

Allison: Murphy on The 100. Titus tortured him and was about to frame him for murder, but Murphy still stuck around for Clarke after Lexa was shot. Seriously, he could have made a run for it. I probably would have after enduring torture by yet another Grounder. Murphy hasn’t seen Clarke in months, and he probably wasn’t aware of her feelings for Lexa. However, he stayed behind for her to be her moral support as she watched Lexa die.

Moment that Left You Wondering

Lauren: I am curious about the A.I. plot The 100. When you think about it, it’s sort of like how a new Dalai Lama is selected through reincarnation, and the fact that they might have two warring A.I.s in play intrigues me.

Christine: So, what was the purpose of Zero Matter? Why did we spend an entire season worrying about Jason Wilkes? What was Whitney Frost after with it? Agent Carter’s season finale cleared nothing up for me, and sadly, the entire episode was rather anti-climactic, especially as far as finales go. And why, oh why, would you end a series that’s most likely not going to get a third season by killing off a main character in the episode tag? Jack deserved so much better than that.

Lizzie: How is it possible that Rip Hunter can be a Time Master? Don’t they have basic competence guidelines in that place? You’d think they would at least require the members of their order to be able to THINK. Because going off on a mission, any mission, with half of Firestorm, AND an already angry Mick Rory, instead of, you know, The Atom, or, BOTH halves of Firestorm wasn’t really smart, but then angering Mick Rory into betraying him, that was even worse. Rip Hunter is the absolute worst. At everything. God save Legends of Tomorrow if he continues to be in charge.

Lyra: Finn’s return on The Originals. You mean to tell me that the energy released by Klaus’s sire link was enough to give me two brothers for the price of one? Please tell me more. Also, explain how Finn and Kol look handsome as ever even after being dead for ages? Now that’s the real mystery!

Ashley: The final moments from the season finale of Suits. I’m still shocked that they actually went there, and Mike really did go to prison. I never thought it would happen, and I was sure Harvey would find some way to fix the whole thing. I’m very curious to see where the story will go from there!

Allison: Amberle somehow turning into a tree on The Shannara Chronicles. She’s the Ellcrys. My mind just can’t wrap itself around this. How does an Elvin princess somehow live in a tree or become a tree? She can’t be a tree forever, right? It sounds really boring. What do you do as a tree?

Quote of the Week

Lauren: “In my head, where math is done! Please don’t interrupt!” from Patterson on Blindspot.

Lizzie:But is there order IN the chaos?” From Fred Savage as Stewart Sanderson (said as if he were Dean Sanderson), in The Grinder.

Lyra: “When you were pouring the Bisquick were you trying to make pancakes?” This lovely quote is brought to you by the tactful Abraham from The Walking Dead.

Allison: “I don’t understand. You can’t just become a tree.” You really can’t top this quote from Wil on the season finale of The Shannara Chronicles.

Allison is in a love affair with television that doesn't seem to be letting up anytime soon. Slightly damaged fictional characters are her weakness. She loves to spend her free time curled up with a cat and a show to binge-watch. Allison is a Tomatometer-approved critic (Rotten Tomatoes).
