Teen Wolf Review: Amplification (Season 5 Episode 15)

Reviews, Teen Wolf

Teen Wolf’s “Amplification” is a big tease at what’s to come when the McCall pack heads into Eichen House to free Lydia. They all work together, using various skills, to enter the supernatural fortress. Their plans start to spiral out of control when Parrish crashes the party to protect our strawberry blonde goddess from Theo and his merry band of chimeras.

Let’s talk about it!

The rescue never happens. It’s the single most frustrating thing ever! It’s understandable that there needs to be planning with grand operations such as this. But stringing people along and making them feel like this is the episode where Lydia gets rescued is ridiculous. *crosses arms*

The McCall pack joins together because they have a common goal and a choice. Theo isn’t pulling them along or twisting their minds. Lydia Martin is their friend and the missing piece. Sure the banshee can help defeat The Beast but they’re there because they feel lost without her. They walk around knowing that someone who fights for them is hidden away. Well, not anymore. Scott & Co. will not leave Eichen House until Lydia joins them. Even Kira, who has been away from the pack, jumps right into helping her friends. Her fears are put right in front of her where she stumbles like a newborn fawn until she gets her bearings like a the true badass kitsune she is.

Stiles is adamant about getting to Lydia for many reasons. He’s a human who can surpass the mountain ash of the psych ward, she’s a part of his park, and he happens to know his way around the joint. He also feels partially responsible for her well being. In Stiles’ mind, Theo turns them against each other too easily. If he had been brave enough, smart enough, or patient enough she would be fighting The Beast with him on the outside. Unfortunately, that doesn’t happen, and they lose her. His inability, which is actually the packs, to work together weighs on his shoulders. It will disappear, not when he rescues Lydia, but when he accepts that the only one at fault is Theo and his chiseled jaw.

Parrish is on a path to accepting who he is. He still doesn’t have control or the ability to remember any of it but he’s on his way. Grandpa Argent is without a doubt waiting for him to delve into the inner psyche of the hellhound. His drive to protect Lydia is curious as well. (Why else would he be at Eichen House?) They’ve always had a bond between them because they understand death in a way that no one else does.

But how does he know when she needs help? Why has he been having visions of her (in the shower)? His connection with her is greater than anyone knows or understands. When Lydia screams in the following episode, her power echoing through Eichen House, Parrish will be the only one to approach her with no fear of pain. They’re quite a pair.

Next episode is going to be quite a test for the McCall Pack. They’ll have to fight to complete their mission while Theo mucks things up. That’s going to be easy, right? *snort*

Teen Wolf airs Tuesdays at 9/8c on MTV.

Lyra is a TV and movie enthusiast. It all started on a dark night when she turned on Fox and fell in love with the X-Files. It was all history after that as she got lost in Doctor Who, The Marvel Verse and most recently everything DC. Her love for Doctor Who lead her to study abroad, where she fell into live-tweeting and the lovely explosion of fandom life that Tumblr is. Her main love for the summer (with a mega re-watch happening) is Arrow. When she isn’t sharing her love for TV and movies she’s writing fan-fiction, taking care of her family, and puttering around her kitchen.
