iZombie Review: Fifty Shades of Grey Matter (Season 2 Episode 11)
And we’re back! Again. So, after coming back from Christmas break hiatus, iZombie went on another two-week break. Huh? I’ll never understand TV schedules but let’s agree not to go away for long again, yes?
What other way to come back than with some sexy librarian brain, right? But can we all stop referring to everything erotica related to “Fifty Shades of Grey?” There are other books out there but I digress. Liz is immediately thrown into her case of the week, and so are we.
“Fifty Shades of Grey Matter” is everything I love about this show. It’s fun and quirky with a hint of mystery. There’s way to make a fun zombie show that isn’t stress inducing but still has a meaty story, and iZombie is it.
With the death of a librarian who moonlights as an Erotic Romance author things get a little warm down in the morgue. I am always here for women feeling sexually liberated even if you’re a zombie. This week we get to see both Liz, Peyton, Bozzio and the Flight attendant be unapologetic about what they want. Yes!
Liz has been adamant about not having a relationship with anyone until she is human again but here comes hot Drake while she is hopped on Fifty Shades of Brain, what’s a girl to do? Unfortunately for us, Major isn’t the object of Liz’s affections but fortunately we get more of newly turned zombie, Hot Drake. I will be referring to him as Hot Drake from now on, it seems appropriate. Drake is a suitable replacement until Liv and Major get their lives together. This is a solid episode for Liv, she gets to solve her case and gets some action, not bad day at work.
However, on the other end of the love machine, things aren’t so great for Peyton. She’s been hitting it off with her informant Blaine and like every good ADA/Informant relationship, you always end up in bed together. This storyline has been a misstep for me. Why put these two together? Have we forgotten about Ravi? Why reduce Peyton to having a relationship with the likes of Blaine? And like anyone who sleeps with someone you shouldn’t have, Peyton finds out that her new boo is a sociopathic killer. Yes, reminds me of my ex.
Two friends on two different spectrums of the love machine. One sleeping with a hot Zombie and one sleeping with a criminal/murderer/former zombie. Seems about right. But at the end of the day, for an episode that’s all about sex, the major takeaway was the friendship and sisterly love between Liv and Peyton. I’m glad this relationship is back in order.
While a standard case of the week episode for the most part, a lot came ahead in “Fifty Shades of Grey Matter.” Blaine’s involvement in the Meat Cute murders and the link between the missing socialites are finally being connected which is nicely moving us along to the wrap up of the back half of the season. Still, I wish people would share with the class all the information they have, it would help a lady out so she doesn’t end up in bed with a sociopath.
Other Thoughts:
- Poor Minor. This dog has been through so much. I hope he is running around an open field with lots of doggy cuddles from big family of people.
- Blaine is the worst
- Veronica Mars, I mean, Kristen Bell! Did you catch that sultry voice reading the audiobook? That’s none other than Kristen Bell! Love that easter egg. Is that what Veronica’s doing now? What happen to the fancy lawyer job?
- Not enough Ravi. Never enough Ravi.
- When is Babbineaux going to find out about Zombies? Do we want him to know?
- Drake. Liz knows when the hotline, blings. Sorry, I had to.
