Tell-Tale TV Picks of the Week: American Crime, Arrow, and Scorpion Have Our Characters of the Week

Tell-Tale TV Picks of the Week

This week on television, we entered the world of magic in The Magicians, joined the devil in his quest to solve a crime on Lucifer, and reunited with Mulder and Scully on The X-Files.  We joined the fight to free Mike on Suits, and we caught back up with all  the bloodshed and tears on The Vampire Diaries and The Originals.

Storyline We Could’ve Done Without

Lizzie: Anything Jack related, in NCIS: LA. The execution wasn’t bad. In fact, the execution was better than I could have ever hoped for, but really, how many times can they use Jack as a tool to shake up Kensi? How many times can Hetty lie/withhold important information from the team and expect people to trust her? Draw the line, NCIS: LA. Draw the line.

Jessica: Anything Dr. Hale and Anne Hastings related, on Mercy Street. I find their scheming ways to be tired and overdone. I cannot understand why they wouldn’t want to work with Dr. Foster and Mary to make sure that all the soldiers are getting the proper treatment. I expect I will have to put up with this storyline for the rest of the season. But I really wish I didn’t have too.

Allison: Nick and Adalind’s kiss on Grimm. I’ve been enjoying the weirdness that is these former enemies having a kid together. However, this does not mean I was ready for that kiss. It’s too soon, and so, so weird. I’m not buying that they’ve bonded enough for that. Maybe at the beginning of next season, maybe.

Ashley: Even though a lot of the stuff that happened with the “hotel guests” on New Girl was funny, I felt like it was a bit much at certain points. The whole thing with Nick and the girl seemed pretty unnecessary. What I did like, was CeCe trying to give advice like Jess.

Character of the Week

Lizzie: Felicity Smoak, Arrow. Felicity was a badass this week, plain and simple. And she was a a badass in a wheelchair, which makes her like, twice as badass. As Oliver pointed out, her mind is  her superpower, and the best part about Felicity is that she doubted, she was unfair and rude to Oliver, who was only trying to help, and then she confronted her own fears, made peace with new Felicity and kicked her insecurities goodbye, all by herself.

Jessica: Eric, American Crime. I mentioned in my review about how I did not understand his character until this week. But wow, I finally understand where the anger was coming from. Plus his suicide attempt broke my heart. I cannot wait to see where this character goes.

Allison: Walter O’Brien, Scorpion. After hearing all the harsh things his date, Linda, had to say to him, Walter still risked his life by getting in that box to help Linda protect herself from the bomb that was strapped to her. How many guys would do that? Also Walter earns major points for opening up about his fears that he will never really fit in anywhere.

Ashley: Harvey on Suits. Or maybe Mike? Can choose both? It was such an awesome episode of Suits this week, and they way they both handled the situation they’re end was pretty fabulous.

Most Romantic Moment

Lizzie: Like a child starved for affection who sees BIG romantic declarations in just a few words (or, as a child of the 90’s who grew up watching Mulder and Scully say more with a look than with actual words), I’m going to go with Mulder’s cheesy-for-anyone-else line to Scully, when she, after they finally got to talking about William, inquired if she was only just an incubator to him. “You’re never JUST anything to me, Scully,” might not seem like big words, but in The X-Files language, it’s the equivalent of I love you + I can’t live without you + come back to me please I’m dying. I swear.

Allison: Bellamy and Clarke’s reunion on The 100. Did you see how they looked at each other? Even if you don’t ship Bellarke, you have to be able to recognize how much they care for each other. Did anyone else risk death by posing as a member of the Ice Nation to save Clarke? No. Bellamy did whatever he could to save Clarke because she means so much to him. Clarke volunteered to die if Roan would spare Bellamy’s life. I mean Clarke thought that Roan was Ice Nation taking her back to his queen, who would kill her for her powers.

Ashley: I have to cheat and use Suits again for this one, which is also not an obvious romantic choice. But Donna went back to working Harvey, you guys, and it was such an endearing moment.

Allison is in a love affair with television that doesn't seem to be letting up anytime soon. Slightly damaged fictional characters are her weakness. She loves to spend her free time curled up with a cat and a show to binge-watch. Allison is a Tomatometer-approved critic (Rotten Tomatoes).
