iZombie Review: The Hurt Stalker (Season 2 Episode 8)

iZombie, Reviews

This episode of iZombie, titled “The Hurt Stalker” shows how far Major is willing to take his lies to Liv, how essential Ravi is to everyone’s sanity, and how we little we know about Detective Clive Babineaux.

Major is a jerk. Let’s get that out of the way first. At first, Liv’s brain of the week is hilarious. She’s obsessive and jealous of anyone stepping into her boyfriend’s life on Facebook. It starts losing it’s charm rather quickly. Major uses Liv’s stalker brain to make her feel like her suspicions are unwarranted and paranoid delusions. Surprise: they’re not. He’s still hiding all the murders he’s committing for Max Rager. Now that he’s in a committed relationship, he should be sharing his life with her and working towards a middle ground. When Liv finds out about his lies and how he manipulated her, it will devastate their relationship. Liv will look upon him as a hypocrite that does not accept her new nature. This is a warning for the future.

Ravi is a beautiful man who continues to bring humor and smarts. He reels back the viewer from the insanity of the zombie outbreak. He teases Clive as if they’re the oldest of friends without overdoing it. He also acts as Liv’s partner in crime even for the smallest missions, going as far as pretending to be a lovable and awkward fiancee.

What we need now is more Ravi in detective mode and out in the field. Or a storyline all about Ravi that ties into Liv’s story, puts him in danger, and supplies us with some angst. Ravi deserves and needs to emerge from the shadows of iZombie and step into the spotlight.

We learn a great deal of information about Detective Babineaux. Clive is an avid Game of Thrones fan, he loves cooking cajun food, and he plays the piano. It gives his character a surprising amount of depth and makes him more than just a cop who attracts “badge bunnies.” It’s easy now to see him as a man who grew up cooking with his loved ones, dressing up for Halloween,  and binge-watches Netflix like the rest of us. The writers use his closed off nature to supply jokes for Liv and Ravi, making every revelation hilarious and satisfying to the fans.

Other Observations:

  1. Rita’s text messages are a way to inflict pain to Liv sprouting from jealousy. Gilda wants Major working only for Max Rager and by her side.
  2. Super Max is just a way for Vaugh to get back the vitality he has lost through age and time. He’s vain and ‘will’ be the alpha male.
  3. Scene of the night goes to Ravi and Clive. – “Cliiiive, what is George R.R. Martin doing right now?” “NOT. WRITING.”

Lesson of the week: Major needs to take the final step in trusting Liv before it’s too late. Agree? Disagree? Leave us your comments and thoughts in the section below.

Lyra is a TV and movie enthusiast. It all started on a dark night when she turned on Fox and fell in love with the X-Files. It was all history after that as she got lost in Doctor Who, The Marvel Verse and most recently everything DC. Her love for Doctor Who lead her to study abroad, where she fell into live-tweeting and the lovely explosion of fandom life that Tumblr is. Her main love for the summer (with a mega re-watch happening) is Arrow. When she isn’t sharing her love for TV and movies she’s writing fan-fiction, taking care of her family, and puttering around her kitchen.
