Our Gilmore Girls Revival Dreams

Gilmore Girls, Panels

You didn’t misread those headlines, and this is not a dream. The Gilmore Girls ARE returning to the small-screen.

Michael Ausiello broke the news over at TV Line on October 19, and every day that followed has given fans just a little more information about what we have to look forward to in the four 90 minute “movie-sodes” on Netflix.

TV Line has reported that all three of Rory’s boyfriends will appear, though in what capacity, it’s not clear yet. So pull out your old “Team” t-shirts!

The Hollywood Reporter is reporting that Melissa McCarthy won’t appear, but we’re not counting her out just yet! We’re praying to Mrs. Kim that we get an appearance from Sookie St. James.

Amy Sherman-Palladino left Gilmore Girls in Season 6, prior to it’s final 22 episodes, but rumor has it that she WILL be on hand to both write and direct these new installments with her husband, Daniel Palladino.

What else do we know about these movie-sodes? Well, not much exactly.

So we went to some of our writers here at Tell-Tale TV, Editor-in-Chief Ashley Bissette Sumerel, Senior Writer Lizzie, and writers Allison Nichols and Christine Laskodi, who are all huge Gillys, and asked them what THEY want to see in these new installments.

Ashley, first and foremost, wants to see a wedding. “I’m not sure how the wedding can work, because I wouldn’t want it to be almost a decade later before Luke and Lorelai are able to get married.”

Lizzie agrees. “I need a Luke and Lorelai wedding. I only waited for like, forever. And then it didn’t happen. And then they broke up. Them getting back together in literally the last shot of the series doesn’t make up for all the pain they put me through. Lorelai deserves a happy ending. She deserves to walk down that aisle. She deserved to have her father walk her down that aisle, but that’s not possible now. So at least give me the wedding, please.”

Lizzie is anticipating how the movie-sodes will handle the death of Edward Herrmann, and subsequently, his character, Richard Gilmore. “I want some kind of memorial for Richard. I know this isn’t going to be possible if they pick up in real time, but there can be flashbacks, right? There can be mourning.”

Christine echoes those sentiments. “I’m putting my money on the show opening with everyone coming together for Richard’s funeral. It’s the chance to bring Logan back in, because OF COURSE he’d be there. Jess could show up, because he would if Luke told him about it, just to support Rory. Most importantly, I think Amy really needs to give the fans some closure on Richard before they can move on.”

Another thing Ashley is hoping to see? A mention of where we last saw Rory. “Even though Amy Sherman-Palladino didn’t write Season 7 of Gilmore Girls, I think they HAVE to at least mention the fact that we last saw Rory heading off on presidential campaign trail with Barack Obama. Is Rory working in DC these days?”

Speaking of Rory, writer Allison Nichols is keeping her mind on the big question on everyone’s list. “I hope we get time alone with Rory and all/most of her exes. I’m not saying Rory needs to have a heart to heart with ALL of them, but I want more than just an awkward run in.”

Where does Ashley stand on Rory’s big three? “I’m not sure I want Rory with anyone, but if she is with someone, I’d want it to be Jess.”

Christine is also in favor of a Rory and Jess rekindling. “I’m hoping that Rory and Jess reunited somewhere, and that Rory is a journalist and Jess is an author, and they’re living happily ever-after.”

We love our Gilmores, and their love lives, but let’s not forget the other citizens of Stars Hollow. Allison’s biggest question about the revival? “Does Babette have any cute new garden gnomes? It’s essential that I know.”

Tell-Tale TV readers, what are YOU hoping to see when Gilmore Girls returns? Who should Rory end up with? An old love, or a new one? Do you want to see Luke and Lorelai walk down the aisle, or do you think it’s happened in the eight years since we last saw them? Sound off in the comments below, and let’s hope and wish together!
