Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. Review: Devils You Know (Season 3 Episode 4)

Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D., Reviews

Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. finally hits a home run with the fourth episode of Season 3, “Devils You Know.” Every story line of this week’s episode held our attention and kept us wanting to see what would happen next.

Coulson has teamed up with Rosalind and the ATCU agreeing to share Inhuman intel and asking for the same in exchange, with the promise that they leave Daisy alone. The rest of Coulson’s team isn’t so happy about this new sharing is caring plan, and I have to say I agree with them. Rosalind is smart and capable, but I still don’t trust her. What’s her government mandated agenda, what are they planning to do with the Inhumans if they ever find one alive?

Coulson: The ATCU is here to help.
Mack: Really? ‘Cause the other day they wanted Daisy’s head for their trophy case.

It looks as if we’ll find out what exactly the ATCU is up to when they find an Inhuman whose power is sensing other Inhumans. Coulson allows Rosalind to take the Inhuman into custody as long as Daisy and Mack can tag along for the ride. However, before they can make it to the ATCU’s head quarters, Lash attacks their caravan, killing the Inhuman and leaving the rest beaten and bruised but alive, including Daisy. Does he not know she’s Inhuman, has he been instructed to leave her alone, why didn’t he attempt to get rid of her too?

She sees him shift in the shadows and turn back into someone that appears human rather than the large, blue monster that we’ve seen so far. With this twist Lash could be anyone, including a character we’ve already met. Any bets on who’s shifting into a creepy alien and blasting holes into people? My money’s on Hydra; it would make a pretty interesting twist if Lash is working for Ward, after all they both share an affinity for evil and killing innocent people.

Lash: I’m not merciful, I’m necessary.

Speaking of Hydra, Hunter has been climbing the ranks and has finally gotten his chance to go up against Ward. Melinda is concerned that he’s in over his head so she calls in Coulson for back up. When she shows up to help Hunter, Ward looks scared to death of her (and for good reason), but he rattles Melinda by showing her that he has eyes on Andrew, using the threat of his life against her.

MARVEL Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. Review: Devils You Know (Season 3 Episode 4) | Tell-Tale TV'S AGENTS OF S.H.I.E.L.D. - "Devils You Know" - Having reluctantly agreed to share information with Rosalind and the ATCU, Coulson and the team go in search for the Inhuman who is killing off other Inhumans, and May feels that Hunter's mission to take down Ward is getting too personal, on "Marvel's Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.," TUESDAY, OCTOBER 20 (9:00-10:00 p.m., ET) on the ABC Television Network. (ABC/Kelsey McNeal) NICK BLOOD, MING-NA WEN

Ward has the audacity to compare Melinda watching Andrew die, to him murdering his own girlfriend by accident because she was wearing Melinda’s face at the end of last season. We’re led to believe that when Hunter starts shooting at Ward anyway, he gives the go-ahead to kill Andrew. However, as any good TV junkie knows, a character isn’t really dead until we see their face; the shot of “dead Andrew” is simply someone’s shoes, a pool of blood, and Andrew’s phone. And in science fiction, you aren’t even really dead until you die twice, just ask Coulson. Whoever went down in that market, I don’t think it was Andrew.

Other thoughts:

  • Jemma is still recovering and working through her issues from her time on the mysterious planet. She decides to tell Fitz exactly what happened and why she wants to go back, just before the episode ends. I can’t wait to find out what she’s up to.
  • Bobbi is tired of being kept from the field, but her injuries from last season are still healing. While it’s neat to see another side of Bobbi and I’m loving her role in FitzSimmons relationship, I hope she’s well enough to get back in the field soon.
  • What’s Ward going to do now that he knows S.H.I.E.L.D. is onto him? What’s up with him using so much S.H.I.E.L.D. terminology and calling himself the “director?” When is Melinda going to get to punch him in the face again? Inquiring minds need to know.
