Suits Review: Uninvited Guests (Season 5 Episode 9)
Harvey Spector: If they want a war, they got a war!
And that’s exactly what’s happening in this week’s episode of Suits, entitled “Uninvited Guests.”
First of all, Hardman is back. Does anyone else get insanely creeped out whenever he’s on screen? His joker-like smile and too-high voice give me the heeby-jeebies every single time.
But maybe it’s also because I know he’s being threatening at the same. The way he comes after Jessica is just aggressive. And I mean, sure, Jessica and her gang literally take Daniel’s firm from him, while he watches, but he’s not exactly innocent either.
His threat is clear though. Jessica steps down, or else he will take his firm back from her, the way she did from him. And of course, he’s enlisted Soloff in this little mission of his.
How? To go after PSL’s clients one by one.
Speaking of: I need Jack to pick a side. I actually really liked it when he told Harvey to humble himself last week, because let’s face it — Harvey does need to. Still, to find out that it’s been all part of a major ploy to make Harvey look like a briber, is just downright mean, and conniving.
The theme this episode seems to be: quit.
Harvey is contemplating resigning after Forestman tells him he’ll stop backing Hardman if he does; Jessica may quit or resign or be thrown out of her own company because of Hardman and Soloff; and of course, Mike is starting to question his life choices as his wedding to Rachel threatens not only him, but also her professional and personal life.
Now, I’ve never particularly liked Rachel. Something about her seems whiny and clingy, and annoying. But she’s been tolerable this season, until this week’s episode. For an episode before the finale, where everything is coming to head and setting up an explosive ending, her scenes just don’t come to par. As if her “arguments” with her mom didn’t put me off, her telling Donna that she wants to tell her mom Mike’s secret does for sure.
Okay, maybe I’m being to hard on her. But does she really not understand what telling her mom means? For Mike, and for herself? And is this Rachel’s first encounter with a wedding — ever? She should know that families fight about everything and anything at weddings. Just saying. It’s the weakest subplot of this episode.
Suits has always been high stakes, as I’ve mentioned before, and right now, it looks like a lot is at stake for the summer finale. Harvey’s metaphorical fall may end up being self inflicted. I do believe that Harvey’s heart is in a good place, and just like how Mike would do anything for Harvey- Harvey would do anything for Jessica — including stepping down.
If Harvey steps down, Hardman wouldn’t have the money to threaten Jessica with; although, it would be very interesting to see Louis and Harvey has managing partners if Jessica is forced to leave.
Mike is also facing a huge decision. Should he stop being a lawyer, or not? Should he put Rachel’s career at risk, or not? The pair shares a great scene this week, with Mike reassuring Rachel that he’s here for her and always will be. They just need a small wedding so that no one else finds out his secret, but still, it doesn’t seem like this is just going to go away.
My guess is they’ll break up for a while. Mike can’t legally ever be tied to anyone, because it’ll put them in jeopardy. It’s tragic, really; that in order to have the one thing he really wants, he has to give up everything else. He can’t win either way.
And right now, by the looks of it — neither can Jessica or Harvey. Though both are in trouble next week, one, as Daniel puts it, will get hit where it hurts the most.
Quick Shouts:
1. To Jessica and Donna for being strong, kickass woman!
2. Trevor! Who has somehow become a voice of reason to Mike, although I’m still don’t trust him.
3. Dominic, for being loyal to Pearson Spector Litt, and most of all — Harvey, when he needed it the most.

I think Jack did pick a side. He was working with Hardman initially but Louis turned on him and Jessica took Harvey’s side and ordered him to place nice with others or he’d be fired. At first, working with Mike was just a ploy. Then Mike impressed him so much he decided to really try and make a clean start and told Hardman where he could shove it. Then he gave Harvey that advice and truly meant it. It was only after that, when he got that mysterious blackmailing package from Hardman, that he chose to go along with Hardman rather than probably getting fired and sent to jail. Or whatever suitably terrible consequences Hardman is hanging over Jack’s head. And after he was forced to switch sides, as Louis quickly called, he then used what he knew Harvey was going to do to undermine him.
