UnREAL Review: Two (Season 1 Episode 8)
Rachel has the chance at something big: becoming the executive producer of her very on show. She’ll have to earn in, but not in the traditional way. Obviously, she’ll have to use her skills of manipulation to get it. And she has those in spades.
On this week’s episode of UnREAL, “Two,” all Rachel has to do is convince Adam to marry one of the girls on live television, then live with her in England for a year as a new spinoff to “Everlasting.”
Rachel continues to struggle with the conflict of doing her job well and being a decent human being. Quinn points out the latter as a negative thing, reminding Rachel that she used to be a shark. Combine the fact that she wants to be better with her feelings for Adam, and doing her job the way she used to is no longer something she feels comfortable with. But she’ll do it to have her own show, even if, as she tells Quinn, she’s tired of being a “manipulative bitch.”
She gets Adam on board, finally, by convincing him it’s a way that everyone can get what they want. She’ll have to change the terms — and the point of the show entirely, but you have to admit that her plan sounds like a pretty darn good one. The plan will mean Adam gets almost everything he wants, but he freely admits there’s still one thing he wouldn’t be able to have — and that’s Rachel.
Now for my controversial statement: I don’t want those two together. I think Rachel’s journey is about far more than finding a romantic match. At the start of the season, she was coming back from a meltdown, unsure if she even wanted to be back in this job. Rachel’s still working to figure out who she is and what she wants — and I don’t think that’s a fairytale.
I do, however, think Quinn wants a fairytale, and it seems for a moment that Chet might just give that to her when he proposes. But, just for a moment. I hope Quinn takes him down in a big way.
There’s also still the whole issue of Mary committing suicide. I don’t know how much I buy that the show would still be on the air, or at least that the showrunners wouldn’t somehow still be dealing with the repercussions. Instead, ratings are up!
Quinn at least seems to be uncomfortable, only seeming partially enthusiastic with her “people should die every week” comment.
