The Flash Recap: Rogue Air (Season 1 Episode 22)
Wow. Can you say build up?
Because that’s exactly what this week’s episode of The Flash, entitled “Rogue Air” does. It builds up and sets up so much for not only the finale next week, entitled “Fast Enough,” but also for the season three finale of Arrow.
The main plot point is, of course, Wells. After finding Eddie in the tunnels under STAR labs, the team puts together that Wells wants to restart the particle accelerator one more time- for unknown reasons. And, if he succeeds, then all the meta humans in their make-shift prison will die.
Barry being Barry, decides he can’t let this happen and goes in search for Captain Cold. Why? Why Captain Cold? Speaking of: what made Wentworth Miller decide that Cold should always speak like he’s hosting a circus? And how exactly did Barry find him? The trade is that if Cold helps the team, he wants his identity erased- from the world.
Barry agrees. And of course, of course, Cold and his sister back-stab him.
Honestly, I was expecting this to happen. I was, because you can never really trust the bad guy. Years of watching television have taught me so. But the fact that they did make Barry trust him, made me think that maybe they were setting up the untitled spinoff.
Maybe Cold would get some redeeming qualities. But nope. The only thing we see is Captain Cold and the Golden Glider leave Central City, again. Just like before. Which makes me feel like using this character is a bit of a dud.
Somewhere in between all of this, Iris confronts Eddie about why he has been avoiding her, and his response seems just a little counter intuitive. He breaks up with her because Wells said she didn’t marry him. In the future, Iris marries Barry. And I couldn’t help but think, that maybe if you proposed, Eddie, she’d stay and you would get married. I mean, if Gideon has taught us anything, it’s that the future can be changed. (And you know: second marriages are a thing!)
Iris has a point when she says that we pick our own destiny; but then again, so does Eddie when he says it’s always been about her and Barry. So thus starts the journey of Iris and Barry, just like in the comic books. Although I do hope both characters grow a bit more before being thrown together.
And then Cisco sees that the particle accelerator is ready and that Wells is here! Barry gears up for a fight and brings in two people for backup. Who? Firestorm, and The Arrow!
Does Barry have all these guys on speed dial? Did Oliver leave his wedding/ wedding night/the massacre of everyone he holds dear to help Barry? And does the League have a chopper?
All these questions! So many questions that need to be answered immediately!
The episode ends with Oliver immobilizing Wells with an Arrow (courtesy of Ray), and all of Barry’s worries being eliminated. “I got you” he says, standing over an injured Wells, and I have to say, I’m quite excited to see how this will all play out next week. My hypothesis is Barry goes back in time to save his mom, and succeeds. But then, he also alters the course of the universe and everyone else around him… probably in a negative manner.
Things to think about:
- No one but Barry can call Caitlin uptight, okay? Okay.
- How many feels did you get seeing Robbie and Stephen’s name together on screen?
- Lyla seems to have all of ARGUS at her beck and call. She’s hooked up Barry and Oliver more times than I can count.
- That favor Oliver asked for may come in handy in Nanda Parbat on this week’s season 3 finale for Arrow. Just saying.
- “History books say you live to be 86 years old, Mr. Queen.” YES!
