Nashville Review: This Just Ain’t a Good Day for Leavin’ (Season 3 Episode 17)
Just when I thought we could focus on Deacon and Rayna for a minute, every other character on Nashville had to go and have a life crisis. Here’s the good and bad of Nashville “This Just Ain’t a Good Day for Leavin.’” Spoilers ahead.
The Good
- Sadie is leaving. For a second I was hoping we had a murder mystery on our hands (because she used an illegal handgun and there were no witnesses) but then Luke stepped in and lied to the police and the investigation ended. I’m happy to see Sadie go for a little while. She’s distracting Rayna.
- We got a good ol’ fashioned Juliette freak out. Her baby shower was ruined when Rayna couldn’t host anymore. My favorite line? “I can’t believe she would choose to shoot someone on the day of my shower.” Classic Juliette.
- Teddy finally manages to bribe someone, so it looks like Natasha can leave town and he can move on. Side note: This isn’t in the good column because I’m happy for Teddy. This is in the good column because I’m tired of this storyline.
- Scarlett finally tells Gunnar to back off. “All I felt was the music” she tells him. Well all she felt was the music and hot doctor, but that’s okay. She doesn’t need to mention that.
- I did also like Gunnar and Scarlett’s duet. And that she was dressed like a 90’s pop star for it.
- Baby came! Birth scenes always make me a little teary. Avery even made it home in time.
- We were left with a baby name teaser. I loved this. They actually saved something for an upcoming episode.
The Bad
- Rayna is already back to calling Deacon babe. They got back together yesterday.
- The band name The Triple X’s. Just no.
- The illegal handgun issue. Why did Sadie have an illegal handgun? This doesn’t make sense to me. Seems like she would have bought a legit gun. We get no explanation as to why she didn’t go that route.
And my biggest ‘bad’ of all is that this show is just moving way way too fast. So much happened this week that I would have liked to see more time spent on. Sadie’s story could have been a much more moving one (she’s a battered woman with no legal channels for protecting herself – important stuff to explore) but instead Luke was used to wrap that story up before it even really had a chance to begin.
Same with Juliette’s baby. I would have loved to see that given more time. After all, Juliette is one of the original characters on the show. It should be an important moment when she has her first child.
And don’t even get me started on Rayna and Deacon. They told their kids that he has cancer last night, and she’s out of the house to deal with other stuff by morning?
Slow down, Nashville!
