The Flash and Arrow: Crossover Mania

It’s no secret that The Flash and Arrow are the two most successful shows on The CW network right now, due in no small part to their creator’s efforts to keep the shows close.

Characters often make reference to each other in every day conversation, headlines from Central City regularly appear on Starling screens, and Cisco can’t seem to fangirl over Felicity’s computer skills enough. Small inclusions like these help honor the fans of both shows and encourage viewers who might not be tuning in to the sister show to have a look.

More importantly, showrunner Greg Berlanti has not shied away from crossovers, going to so far as to make them a regular occurrence on both shows.

To date, there has already been four crossovers, with another two coming up (at least).

In the upcoming episode of The Flash called “All Star Team Up,” Felicity and Ray will be visiting central city for some crime solving and a dinner date. The Atom will of course make his debut as well. This will be Felicity’s second appearance on the spinoff, and Ray’s first.

The very next episode, “Who is Harrison Wells” is another crossover, with Cisco and Joe traveling to Starling to investigate Wells’ background. There, they’ll meet Captain Lance and Laurel Lance, Arrow‘s daddy-daughter crime-fighting duo.

But hold onto your hats everyone, there’s MORE.

In a recent promo video, Oliver is seen (in full Ra’s Al Ghul gear) fighting alongside Barry and Firestorm against The Reverse Flash. There’s even a shot of him being attacked by the man in yellow.

It appears that all of these crossovers are being saved for The Flash, but don’t rule out how beneficial they are to Arrow as well. After Felicity’s first visit to Central City, Arrow nabbed nearly 300k new viewers. After the two part crossover that took place in November, Arrow saw their highest ratings streak since Season 1.

It seems like crossovers are good for business!

Maybe that’s why they’re occurring so often in these two hit shows. If you count all these up, you’ll get at least seven crossovers in the span one season! It kind of makes The Vampire Diaries and The Originals’ measly one crossover (with a whopping four minutes of shared screen time) seem a little lackluster.

Is it any wonder that The CW is developing yet another spinoff to these worlds? The Atom and Firestorm are the key players in this new series, with a few more familiar faces peppering the supporting cast. There certainly is superhero fever going around, and comic book nerds are happier than ever.
