Castle Review: The Wrong Stuff (Season 7 Episode 16)
It’s always fun when Castle gets to do something that’s totally out of the box. And on “The Wrong Stuff,” that’s exactly what happens.
This week’s case involves a murder on a Mars simulator, which means that Castle and Beckett get to put on space suits for their investigation. Castle is back at the precinct now as a consultant, but it feels like nothing has changed at all. He’s thrilled at the chance to go to “Mars,” but when there are only three space suits available (Ryan and Esposito are with them too), the disappointment on his face is obvious.
Ryan is quick to make a sacrifice, though, and tells Castle he will stay behind. Castle’s face is priceless, and it’s nice to see that fun-loving guy we know and love again.
It’s perfect timing to have a light episode like this to follow the dramatic two-parter with 3XK, especially since we saw a darker side to Castle last week.
There are a lot of fun moments in this episode, and even the murder has its own silliness aspect. I’m not sure I buy the idea that the computer could be that powerful, though this is an idea we’ve seen in popular culture before. And let’s be honest, with the way technology is moving these days, the statement “The Wrong Stuff” is making is definitely a thought-provoking one.
Back at home, Castle and Beckett find that the loft is getting a bit too crowded. Martha and Alexis both have guests over who seem to be making themselves at home a bit too much (his mom’s boyfriend is wearing his best pajamas). At the end of the episode, Martha announces that she’s going to start looking for a place of her own. She also mentions a hope for “little Castles” in the near future. It’s not entirely surprising news, but I think it will be interesting to see this change.
