Barbershop Series Sets Premiere Date on Prime Video
The Barbershop series, inspired by the popular film franchise, will debut on Prime Video next year.
The streamer released two first-look images to share that all eight episodes of the first season will premiere on Wednesday, February 10, 2027.
It stars Jermaine Fowler as Travis “Trav” Walker, “who returns to Chicago hoping to honor his grandfather’s legacy at the iconic Calvin’s barbershop, but the shop has changed, and so has the city,” per the description.
“As Trav struggles to find his place among a new crew of barbers and loyal customers, Calvin’s remains what it’s always been, a place for sharp fades, sharp opinions, and a community that always has something to say,” it continues.
Jermaine Fowler is also an executive producer of Barbershop.
Prime Video ordered the comedy to series in May 2025 ahead of the streamer’s yearly upfronts. Fowler was already attached as the lead at the time.
Marshall Todd, who co-wrote the script for the original film, was also attached as the writer and executive producer. Meanwhile, Max Searle was set as co-showrunner and executive producer.
“We are thrilled to announce a new series based on the hilarious and innovative world of Barbershop for our global Prime Video customers,” Vernon Sanders, global head of television, Amazon MGM Studios, said in a statement at the time.
“The television adaptation of this iconic film franchise is in excellent hands with co-showrunners Max Searle and Marshall Todd. We couldn’t be happier with their collaboration and hard work to bring Calvin’s Chicago-based barbershop to life for a new audience on Prime Video,” Sanders added.
The first Barbershop movie, starring Ice Cube, was released in 2002, followed by Barbershop 2: Back in Business in 2004, and Barbershop: The Next Cut in 2016.
Before it expanded with the upcoming comedy series, the beloved franchise also included the 2005 Queen Latifah-led spinoff film, Beauty Shop.
The Barbershop series also stars Brett Gray, Punkie Johnson, Roy Wood Jr., E.J. Bonilla, Bresha Webb, Bokeem Woodbine, Tiana Okoye, and Langston Kerman.
The comedy’s guest stars include Zack Fox, Ego Nwodim, Diallo Riddle, Ziwe, Tituss Burgess, Comedian CP, Devon Walker, and Belmont Cameli.
The show’s executive producers also include Kevin Hart, Bryan Smiley, Mike Stein, and Tiffany Brown for Hartbeat; Bradley Gardner for Busy B Entertainment; Cameron Burnett and Autumn Bailey-Ford for Prominent Productions; George L. Tillman and Robert Teitel for State Street Pictures; and Oz Rodriguez.
Rodriguez is also a director of Barbershop, which comes from Amazon MGM Studios, MGM Television, Hartbeat, Busy B Entertainment, Prominent Productions, and State Street Pictures.
