Diarra From Detroit Season 2 Review: A Must-Watch For Mystery Fans

The best shows charm you. They leave you wanting more, but also satisfied if you only get a short time with them. That’s how I felt after watching Diarra from Detroit Season 1.

I didn’t know if another season was in its future, but I felt at peace if it only had a single season.

However, charming shows often also delight you even more if they get more time to thrive. That’s exactly what happens with Diarra from Detroit Season 2. It doesn’t feel like it needs to exist, but you’re so happy that it does.

The second season tackles an even more complex mystery than the first. This time, Diarra and friends must find a hidden treasure while dodging criminals of varying levels of competence. It’s not all action for the “Ghetto Goonies,” as the gang deals with personal crises through it all.

Diarra finds herself in a ridiculous amount of romantic entanglements, including with Chris, the former missing boy who sparked her Season 1 quest. Diarra’s life is just as messy as ever, but that comes second to the complicated mystery this season.

It just gets more complicated as the season progresses, but that’s what makes it fun. It’s so many twists, turns, new characters, and threads that it’s not a season to half-watch. You need to put down the phone and fully engage.

Additionally, the season is being released weekly, instead of a one-and-done binge model. That’s probably the best way to absorb this series. You need to fully submerge yourself in every episode and maybe even watch multiple times to understand everything.

All the threads come together in the end for a satisfying Season 2 finale. 

We don’t have many Black detectives, and we need more of them. We also need them in areas that aren’t glamourized, such as Detroit. It adds an urban flair that we don’t often see on these types of mystery shows. It also adds to the series’ comedy.

Diarra from Detroit Season 2 works so well because it doesn’t try to filter itself in a way that makes it more relatable to everyone. It’s a show about a messy woman in an area that many would label dangerous, but it manages to bring the character of the city to life.

It makes Diarra frustrating but compelling and likable. She’s the type of detective who will solve a crime but in the most haphazard way.

That’s her charisma.

This season has all the wit of the first season, but with higher stakes, more characters, and a complicated mystery that you probably won’t be able to solve. It just has too many twists and turns.

The second season premieres  Wednesday, July 29th, 2026, with episodes releasing weekly. It’s more than worth the Paramount+ subscription. This show is more proof that Paramount+ is constantly building a collection of charismatic and unique originals.
