The Other Bennet Sister to Return for a Three-Part Christmas Special on BBC and BritBox
Get ready to spend the holidays with The Other Bennet Sister.
The series, based on Janice Hadlow’s acclaimed novel of the same name about Mary Bennet, debuted its 10-episode season on BBC iPlayer in March. It had the biggest launch for a freshman drama across all platforms and streamers in the UK since May 2025.
Impressively, The Other Bennet Sister amassed 7.3 million viewers in just its first 28 days.
The show made its three-episode debut on BritBox in North America in May. Its season finale is set to air on Wednesday, June 24.
With that comes the news that The Other Bennet Sister will return for a three-part Christmas special. The BBC has shared a bit of what to expect: “The final episode of the series saw Mary agreeing to wed Tom Hayward, but fans will be keen to know what challenges the future holds for the happy couple…”
Sarah Quintrell, who wrote nine of the first season’s 10 episodes, will pen all three scripts. The 30-minute episodes will be based on storylines by Hadlow. Likewise, Asim Abbasi, who directed half of the season’s episodes, will return to direct The Other Bennet Sister‘s special.
Ella Bruccoleri, who stars as Mary Bennet, is the only confirmed cast member. But it’s expected that “a host of other familiar faces from the series” will also return.
Produced by Bad Wolf, The Other Bennet Sister‘s three-part Christmas special will film primarily in Wales this summer. The episode will air exclusively in the UK on BBC iPlayer and BBC One and on BritBox in the US and Canada.
“We always hoped audiences would fall in love with Mary Bennet’s story, but the response to The Other Bennet Sister has exceeded even our most optimistic expectations,” Jane Tranter, Executive Producer and CEO of Bad Wolf, said in a statement.
“These Christmas specials give us the chance to spend a little more time with characters audiences have taken to their hearts, and to explore what happens after the wedding bells fade and real life begins.”
“Returning to the world of Mary Bennet with our brilliant partners at the BBC and BritBox feels like the perfect way to celebrate the success of the series and give viewers a treat this Christmas,” Tranter concluded.
“We know how much audiences have fallen in love with Mary Bennet, and we’re thrilled that her story isn’t over yet,” Jess O’Riordan, Commissioning Executive of BritBox North America, said in a statement.
“We are so pleased Mary’s story will continue for three more chapters and to welcome audiences back into the world of The Other Bennet Sister this holiday season,” O’Riordan added.
The Other Bennet Sister special is commissioned by Lindsay Salt, Director of BBC Drama, for BBC iPlayer and BBC One and Jon Farrar, Chief Content Officer, Direct to Consumer, BBC Studios, for BritBox North America.
The executive producers are Kate Crowther, Becca Kinder, and Jane Tranter for Bad Wolf, Rebecca Ferguson for the BBC, Robert Schildhouse, Jon Farrar and Jess O’Riordan for BritBox, Sarah Quintrell and Janice Hadlow. Bad Wolf’s Managing Director, Dan McCulloch, and Chief Creative Officer, Ryan Rasmussen, developed and oversee the series.
