Lanterns Teaser Trailer Shows Hal Jordan and John Stewart Overcoming Their Greatest Fears
DC fans are looking at an even more action-packed summer thanks to Lanterns, which expands James Gunn’s new universe after Supergirl‘s cosmic adventure.
HBO released a new teaser for Lanterns, which will premiere on Sunday, August 16, on HBO and HBO Max. The teaser arrives as fans hope that the series will lead into an interstellar mystery.
Although that idea does have some influence on DC Studios’ next series, Lanterns brings a thrilling mystery back to Earth. Of course, that doesn’t mean that there aren’t any galactic threats to worry about.

The teaser follows up on what was previously teased in a different trailer. Kyle Chandler’s Hal Jordan warns Aaron Pierre’s John Stewart about the powers of the Green Lantern Ring. Hal explains the Green Lantern selection process to John, who’s suspicious of his less-than-good actions.
It’s also revealed that John used to look up to Hal as a child. He was inspired to join the military, much like Hal. However, John only knows so little of the inciting incident that turned Hal into the hero: his father’s crash landing.
As Hal teaches John the ways of the Green Lantern, the community they live in mysteriously turns against them. This could be due to an intergalactic enemy that Hal faces, supposedly being caught by them in one scene.
Speaking of Green Lantern powers, Hal Jordan does show a bit of the ring’s construct-creating skills as he manifests a barrier and some counterfeit money.

Although Hal and John aren’t confronting a major interstellar threat head-on, the two heroes will still have to deal with what’s happening on Earth. It will take everything for the two Green Lanterns to learn, or re-learn, their powers for humanity’s greater good.
Nathan Fillion’s Guy Gardner, who previously appeared on Peacemaker Season 2, also appears.
In addition to Chandler, Pierre, and Fillion, the cast for Lanterns Season 1 also includes Kelly Macdonald, Garret Dillahunt, Poorna Jagannathan, Laura Linney, Jason Ritter, Ulrich Thomsen, J. Alphonse Nicholson, and Jasmine Cephas Jones.
Lanterns Season 1 Episode 1 is written by series co-creators Damon Lindelof and Tom King and showrunner Chris Mundy. The first two episodes are directed by James Hawes. Stephen Williams, Geeta Vasant Patel, and Alik Sakharov will direct upcoming episodes.
