Grey’s Anatomy Texas-Set Spinoff Ordered to Series at ABC
Another spinoff series is joining the Grey’s Anatomy universe.
Deadline exclusively reported that ABC has ordered a new offshoot series to premiere with the network’s 2026/2027 midseason programming.
The untitled series comes from Grey’s Anatomy creator & executive producer Shonda Rhimes and showrunner & executive producer Meg Marinis.

“I am incredibly excited to expand the Grey’s Anatomy universe,” Marinis said in a statement, per Variety.
“This opportunity will bring new characters and stories to life that will embody the same heart, emotion, and connection audiences have loved from Grey’s for more than two decades — all set in my home state of Texas,” Marinis continued.
“I am so grateful to Shonda Rhimes for creating this dynamic world and feel so fortunate that I get to be a part of it,” Marinis concluded.
This series will be the fourth show in the Grey’s Anatomy universe. It first grew with the California-set Private Practice, starring Kate Walsh as Addison Forbes Montgomery. It aired for six seasons on the network.

The shared universe later expanded with the firefighting-centric Station 19, which ran for seven seasons on ABC. It concluded in 2024, but one of its stars, Danielle Savre, recently reprised her role as Maya DeLuca-Bishop on Grey’s Anatomy Season 22 Episode 17, “Through the Fire.”
There’s also Grey’s Anatomy: B-Team, the six-episode web series that followed a new class of interns, including Jake Borelli’s Dr. Levi Schmitt.
Interestingly, Levi took a fellowship in Texas when Borelli exited as a series regular on Grey’s Anatomy Season 21 Episode 7, “If You Leave,” in 2024.

There has been no confirmation about who, if anyone, from the original series will star or appear on it. However, Deadline reports that it “will be built around a new group of doctors” and “will likely be connected to the world of Grey’s Anatomy via one or more characters, possibly Debbie Allen’s Catherine Fox.”
The one-hour drama is described as “an edgy drama about a team at a West Texas rural medical center — the last chance for care before miles of nowhere.”
Grey’s Anatomy‘s Ellen Pompeo is an executive producer, though. As is Rhimes, Marinis, and Rhimes’s producing partner, Betsy Beers. Shondaland and 20th Studios produce the untitled show.
