Wild Cards Season 3 Trailer Released by The CW

News, Wild Cards

Max and Ellis partner up again in the first trailer for Wild Cards Season 3.

It’s a good thing there are plenty of details to appreciate in this trailer because the show doesn’t return until next month. As previously reported, Wild Cards third season premieres on Monday, January 26, at 8/7c on The CW.

The new footage fills in some gaps, like Max staying on as a consultant while Ellis took Daniel’s boat out for a spin. It seems like Max has been helping Simmons and Yates with cases. Despite Yates’s best efforts (“I’m officially declaring this ‘No Murder Month'”), they are seen investigating a murder.

The Wild Cards trailer, exclusively shared by Swooon, also shows the moment that Max pops into Chief Li’s office to see that Ellis is back. Given where Wild Cards Season 2, Episode 13, “Sunrise, Sunset,” leaves them, this dynamic duo certainly has plenty to discuss.

Perhaps they should start with their undeclared feelings for one another?

However, that may have to wait — again, or still — because they have plenty of cases to solve in the upcoming season. The trailer shows glimpses of different investigations, like a man being crushed by a weight at a gym, something involving what appears to be a boy band, and Max undercover at a workout class.

There’s also a shot of Max shooting her shot during a game of pool, saying, “Never hustler a hustler.” Max Mitchell is so back!

Wild Cards Season 2 Episode 13, "Sunrise, Sunset" -- Vanessa Morgan as Max Mitchell, Fletcher Donovan as Ricky, and Jason Priestley as George

That means more jokes, like Ellis and Max discussing Chief Li’s new haircut. Max says he looks like a bullet! It also means more…interesting choices, like hitting a man over the head with a (possibly) clean bedpan.

At one point, Max says, “The dream team’s back together,” over a shot of Max, Ellis, Yates, and Simmons, which may even mean that the four of them will team up more often in the new season.

All of that said, one of the biggest reveals in the Wild Cards trailer is seeing Bones‘s Tamara Taylor on the other side of that door as Max’s mother, Vivienne, who Max believed to be dead until the Season 2 finale.

Vivienne pleads her case, saying, “Everything I have done has been to protect my husband and daughter.” Still, George seems skeptical, telling someone on the phone, “She lied to us.” Answers await when Wild Cards returns in 2026!
