Tracker Season 3 Episode 4 Review: No Man’s Land

Tracker Season 3 Episode 4, “No Man’s Land,” takes Colter to a small town in Texas, testing his resourcefulness in the most dire circumstances.

Colter is on his own for most of “No Man’s Land,” sharing very few scenes with Randy and Reenie. In the second half of the episode, he partners with the town’s sheriff, but otherwise, Colter is alone.

It is a bold narrative choice, but it pays off due to the intriguing storyline. What starts as an ordinary missing persons case quickly drags Colter into a world of dirty cops, drug lords, and elaborate revenge plots.

Tracker is usually at its best when Colter interacts with the supporting cast, but his solitude works really well on this episode. As he hunts for Trey, his unexpected detour in the Texas wilderness forces him to use his resourceful skills.

There is no end to Colter’s abilities as he finds a cactus fruit to eat and a small ranch to borrow a horse for travel. These instances serve as a reminder of why Colter Shaw is such a fascinating character.

“No Man’s Land” actually begins with flashbacks of Colter learning the truth surrounding his father’s death, illustrating that he is still processing his mother’s betrayal.

This case is potentially a good thing for Colter’s thought process because he has to talk down a kid from killing a drug lord in revenge.

Of course, Colter never wanted to kill his mother, but he wanted to hurt the man she hired. It also does not change the fact that Colter is still deeply hurt by his mother’s deceit, and he is unsure if he can face her again.

This unique experience of convincing someone not to kill a drug lord in revenge certainly puts things into perspective. Colter might never be able to forgive his mother or his father’s killer. However, Colter could face his mother as a step in his healing process.

Colter Shaw: I understand you, Jimmy. I know who you are. You think you’re gonna kill him, and your pain goes away, it won’t. Killing him is not going to bring back the person you lost, you understand?

While Colter tracks down Trey, Randy and Melanie work diligently at Reenie’s office. Their chemistry is not as electrifying as Reenie and Melanie’s, but this could be a result of their characters’ mutual shyness rather than the actors not meshing.

Only time will tell if Randy and Melanie’s interactions will change, and hopefully, they will.

Reenie is notably absent for most of “No Man’s Land,” and her short appearances raise stimulating concerns.

Reenie appears on screen only during a brief phone call with Colter to retrieve information about a case and earlier on “No Man’s Land,” when she walks into the office wearing the same outfit as the day before.

Furthermore, Reenie is withdrawn and sluggish, suggesting a possible hangover. The later scene illustrates her quiet and reserved behavior, which might indicate something else.

Reenie’s scenes may be brief, but they are impactful because of the mystery surrounding her unusual behavior. The narrative does not provide any other clues as to what is happening with her, but it is notable enough to become a subject in a future episode.

Hopefully, Reenie’s odd demeanor will make sense soon, and a compelling explanation will emerge.

“No Man’s Land” ends with a short but fascinating conversation between Colter and the town’s sheriff.

The sheriff asks Colter about his love life and if he has ever pursued marriage.

Colter has never been married, but his vague response suggests he has thought about it before, and maybe even came close to it once.

Including this scene at the end of the episode suggests Colter’s love life might become important at some point, an intriguing prospect since his romances almost do not exist.

Overall, “No Man’s Land” is a great episode, but the hints regarding Reenie and Colter’s future storylines are the best part.
