The Paper: Everything We Know So Far About The Office Spinoff
It’s hard to get tired of rewatching The Office, but if you’re looking for a show to fill that sitcom-shaped void in your life, look no further than The Paper.
Per the series description, “the documentary crew that immortalized Dunder Mifflin’s Scranton branch is in search of a new subject when they discover a historic Midwestern newspaper and the publisher trying to revive it.”
Here’s everything we know so far about The Office spinoff, The Paper.
What is The Paper about?

The Paper is a spinoff set in the same universe as Dunder Mifflin. Instead of a paper production company, this series follows a group of people working at a Toledo newspaper called The Truth Teller.
One of the main characters is Ned Sampson (Domhnall Gleeson), who comes in as the new editor-in-chief at The Truth Teller. Like Michael Scott (Steve Carell), Ned is the boss at the company and has to find a way to keep the newspaper alive.
Just like The Office, most people working at The Truth Teller don’t seem very passionate about their jobs. In fact, in the trailer, very few of the characters seem to have any experience at all in the world of journalism.
However, Ned doesn’t lose hope. He sends his writers out into the field to hunt for the most exciting news to report on. But in the town of Toledo, it seems like the task of finding something new might be difficult.
From the trailer, The Paper also appears to have a similar found family dynamic as The Office (there’s even a scene of them going out clubbing together!) All the co-workers seem to get along well, even though each has their own quirks.
Is The Paper a comedy?

While the trailer mostly seems all sunshine and smiles, there’s obviously bound to be conflict. Workplace comedies often address the harsh reality of working a job.
Considering that The Truth Teller, a print publication, is struggling to stay afloat, this surely will place plenty of pressure on Ned to make sure he succeeds. In turn, the characters working at the paper also need to make sure that they’re delivering news hot off the press for readers.
Fortunately, it seems like The Paper is still heavily focused on the comedy aspect. So, rather than just being a pressure cooker, the show is sure to deliver plenty of laughs and hilarious moments for the audience to enjoy.
So far, all signs are pointing to The Paper being similar to The Office as a comforting, rewatchable sitcom.
What can we expect from The Paper?

Shot in the same single-camera mockumentary style as The Office, The Paper is expected to capture the same comedic tone as its predecessor. NBC even teased that the in-universe documentary crew is the same one that “immortalized Dunder Mifflin’s Scranton branch.”
The Office ran for nine seasons from 2005 to 2013 and experienced a resurgence again when it was put on Netflix. The show migrated over to Peacock in January 2021 when NBC launched its own streamer.
The Paper was officially ordered last spring, sparking a lot of conversation about what the new show might cover. While we might not know the exact details yet, some of the best comedic and creative minds are behind the project.
Greg Daniels, known for The Office and King of the Hill, and Michael Koman, known for Nathan For You, are listed as co-creators. Additionally, Ricky Gervais and Stephen Merchant, who co-created the original British version of The Office, are listed as executive producers.
Who is in the cast for The Paper?

The impressive cast also sweetens the deal. Domhnall Gleeson, known for Ex Machina, and Sabrina Impacciatore of White Lotus Season 2 fame will star in the show.
Additionally, Oscar Nuñez, who played Oscar Martinez on The Office, is returning.
Like most sitcoms, The Paper is shaping up to have a strong ensemble cast with quirky characters that make the mundane workplace an exciting place to be.
The supporting cast includes Chelsea Frei from Poker Face, Melvin Gregg from American Vandal, and Gbemisola Ikumelo from A League of Their Own.
Where can I watch The Paper?

The Paper is set to premiere on Peacock in just about a month, on September 4th.
With only a few weeks left before The Paper premieres, it seems like we may have to wait and see for ourselves what the show is exactly about. Hopefully, it will become just as beloved and iconic as The Office and give us something to laugh about.
