Jessica Green Talks ‘The Librarians: The Next Chapter’ Season 1 and the Dynamic Between Charlie and Lysa
As The Librarians: The Next Chapter reaches its midway point, fans of the franchise are hooked into the unfolding storyline set before them. Despite all the dangers they’ve faced, the Librarians have proven themselves time and time again, both metaphorically and literally, to franchise fans.
The sequel spin-off series features a new set of Librarians, who are off to contain the mystical threats caused by the ravenous Gregor, with new dynamics that have viewers fired up. Led by the inventive Vikram, these new Librarians are off to clean up the mess he made.
One of the Librarians’ new allies is Charlie Cornwall, a no-nonsense Guardian who’s getting acquainted. I recently had the opportunity to speak with Jessica Green, who plays Charlie, about her arc for the character and a special relationship that fans have been keeping an eye on. (You can watch the full interview below.)

Reflecting on how she portrayed Charlie up to this point, Green said she’s proud of how the character is starting to believe in herself amidst all the chaos.
“She starts off as quite a reserved character [and] her walls are up,” Green began. “She’s not taking any bullshit. She’s here for one reason, and that’s to clean up the mess and hopefully get a second chance at becoming a Guardian.”
Green went into more depth about Charlie’s development as well. “Over the series, you see her vulnerable side, and you see how insecure she is. Then by the end, you get to see that everyone believes in her. She just needs to start believing in herself, you know?”
“It’s a nice little arc for her this season, and then into next even more so, where she gets to let her hair down a little bit more and gets to relax,” Green said. “She doesn’t have to be the mother hen of the group so much.”
Going further into Charlie being the mother hen of the Librarians, some fans have actually called the group the “Charlie’s Angels” on social media. Green does think that the fandom should lean into that name in the near future, given Season 2’s current production.
“I haven’t heard that, but I love it,” Green responded. “I think we should get that going!”

Moreover, fans of The Librarians: The Next Chapter hope that Charlie’s past is explored more, given how there are some things still to be revealed. Green touched on one aspect of Charlie’s background that stood out to her during Season 1’s production and continued to do so in Season 2.
“I keep finding out things even in Season 2,” Green explained. “I’m like, ‘This would have been really helpful to know in Season 1 before we started filming!’ We kind of get to find out things week to week, episode to episode. So there’s definitely been some things in Charlie’s past that have popped up.”
“[On] episode six, it just came out, we find out that she had a very religious upbringing because she can quote the Bible, which I actually didn’t know until I read that episode,” Green recalled.
In addition, Green says there are a few more details about Charlie’s background that will come to light in Season 2.
“We were kind of just like, ‘Hang on, this is really important information,'” Green said. “‘Could you not have told us that you may be leaning towards this way before we started, so we can we can play certain things a certain way?’ But no, we don’t have that luxury.”

Charlie’s militaristic background has definitely influenced her personality towards the Librarians initially. However, as she’s begun to open up, viewers have become more receptive to her, which Green hoped had happened sooner.
“This is her life: if she doesn’t make this work, it’s the end of the road for her and she’s getting sent back to the military,” Green began.
“She obviously takes it very seriously and doesn’t laugh in certain parts when the others are having a giggle and having a good time because she’s like, ‘This isn’t a game; this is my life.'”
“It’s nice that she starts to just loosen a little bit as the season goes on,” Green added. “I’ve been seeing online — a lot of people want more Lysa and Charlie action. We’ve been saying to the writers, we’re like, ‘Come on, let’s get some more Charlie/Lysa scenes coming around!'”
Speaking on the fan intrigue about Charlie and Lysa’s relationship even more, Green hopes that their relationship could develop further down the road.
“Me and [Olivia Morris], we would be down,” Green said. “We would have so much fun, you know. It’d be a fun little storyline. We don’t know what the writers have planned for us.”
Green went more into detail with how Charlie begins to grow throughout The Librarians: The Next Chapter Season 1 with Lysa by her side.
“I think I just think they have such a nice friendship. Obviously, you see how nervous Charlie is around her, and she’s never had like a girlfriend,” she said, adding that she’s always been more “in the boys club, like in the military and everything.”

“Having this female friendship, she kind of doesn’t know how to act around her,” Green continued. “She tries to be all ladylike and, you know, feminine. She doesn’t quite know what she’s doing.”
Green hopes that Charlie and Lysa will get to share more personal scenes together in the future. “I think more scenes of just them two getting to know each other a bit more and seeing what adventures they get up to,” Green said.
On the production of The Librarians: The Next Chapter Season 2, Green said that they’re about to film the last episode. She also provided a tease on what the cast has seen so far.
“We’re down to the last two weeks, we’re about to start filming episode 12 on Wednesday,” Green said. “We loved Season 1 and had so much fun filming it, but this season, the episodes are epic.
“We actually just got to see little teasers of the first four, and they’re so good,” Green added. “If you like Season 1, you’re gonna love Season 2. Hopefully, it’s not too long of a wait!”
