Harry Potter TV Series Begins Production at HBO
The Wizarding World is unveiling itself once more through HBO’s Harry Potter series, which is now moving full steam ahead!
HBO announced that the Harry Potter television series has officially begun production at Warner Bros. Studios Leavesden, UK. It is expected to be released in 2027 on HBO and HBO Max.
The series is an adaptation of the original Harry Potter books rather than an instalment connected to the films. Dominic McLaughlin, Alastair Stout, and Arabella Stanton will be playing the series’ leading trio, Harry Potter, Ron Weasley, and Hermione Granger, respectively.

For those unfamiliar, Harry Potter follows a young orphan who gets invited to be a student at Hogwarts, a magical academy to learn wizardry. His adventures, alongside Ron and Hermione, will take him far beyond anything he once knew as he’s forced to confront his past and his parents’ killer: Lord Voldemort.
While it has yet to be confirmed, it’s expected that each season will follow the events of each book. If true, Season 1 will likely cover the entirety of the first book, Harry Potter and the Philosopher’s Stone. Should the series be renewed for future seasons, Season 2 will cover Chamber of Secrets.
John Lithgow, Janet McTeer, Paapa Essiedu, and Nick Frost have joined the series previously, alongside the leads. They will be portraying Hogwarts’ most esteemed professors and staff: Albus Dumbledore, Minerva McGonagall, Severus Snape, and Rubeus Hagrid, respectively.
Furthermore, HBO announced that Rory Wilmot and Amos Kitson have joined as Neville Longbottom and Dudley Dursley, respectively.

Aside from the main cast, the series’ creative department heads were also announced. They join the previously announced Holly Waddington as costume designer.
This list includes Adriano Goldman (director of photography), Cate Hall (hair and makeup designer), Paul Herbert (stunt coordinator), Mark Holt (SFX supervisor), Mara LePere-Schloop (production designer), Naomi Moore (set decorator), John Nolan (creature effects design supervisor), Alexis Wajsbrot (VFX supervisor), Dom Sidoli (VFX producer).
Harry Potter is written and executive produced by Francesca Gardiner. Succession‘s Mark Mylod will executive produce and direct multiple episodes of the HBO series in association with Brontë Film and TV and Warner Bros. Television.
Harry Potter is executive produced by J.K. Rowling, Neil Blair, and Ruth Kenley-Letts of Brontë Film and TV, and David Heyman of Heyday Films.
