The illustrious group of individuals known as the Librarians is making their return with The Librarians: The Next Chapter! The long-awaited spinoff to the original series is coming very soon with new magical mysteries to solve and a bigger threat always looming.

The Librarians: The Next Chapter follows the time-travelling Librarian, Vikram Chamberlain, who finds himself in the present. After uncovering that his home has been turned into a museum, he incidentally unleashes magic across the lands. With a new team, Vikram must race against time to clean up his mess.

At the premiere for The Librarians: The Next Chapter, we had the opportunity to speak with showrunner Dean Devlin about what’s in store for this new group of mystical misfits. (You can watch the full interview below.)

Speaking on what he’s most excited about The Librarians: The Next Chapter, Devlin said that the most exciting thing about the spinoff is getting to revisit the show’s world itself.

“I’m so excited to revisit the world of the library,” Devlin said. “It’s a magical world of adventure and fun. To get to go back into that world and meet Librarians and Guardians, it’s a lot of fun!”

Devlin also went more in-depth into how the time between The Librarians and the new spinoff taught him important lessons regarding establishing a franchise.

“When you have a cinematic universe, it’s like when you go to a chain of your favorite restaurant,” Devlin said. “You don’t want it to be too different, but you don’t mind if they have some new items.”

“This is a new item at a familiar restaurant. It has all the vitamins and minerals that you’re used to, all the great tastes, but it’s something new and something special,” he added.

Additionally, Devlin also shared which monsters and dangers he’s excited for fans to see on The Librarians: The Next Chapter. From dealing with a musically powerful factioneer to a love-striking sickness plaguing people, there’s one that Devlin loves the most.

“There’s a lot, but especially in the first episode [“And the Deadly Drekavac”], we meet a Drekavac,” Devlin said.

“This creature ended up being so much fun to shoot and to make, and the amazing effects team not only did a state-of-the-art CG creature, but did it in a way that it has this feel of the old Ray Harryhausen kind of movies as well.”

However, if there’s one thing that fans love the most, it’s a comeback from the original cast of The Librarians. There are many fan favorite characters, such as the caretaker Jenkins and Jacob Stone, but with the original series concluded, it may seem like a long shot.

Fortunately, Devlin confirmed that some characters from The Librarians, including Jenkins, will appear both in Season 2 and The Next Chapter‘s upcoming season.

“I would, I don’t want to give any spoilers, but I will say that there are some fan favorite characters from the show that will show up this season and next season,” Devlin said.

While there are some fan favorites that will make their return, this new team of Librarians still has many stories to unravel and magical realms to explore.

Throughout Season 1, the team will embark on fantastical adventures, including a surprise reroute to a manor where Agatha Christie-styled murders take place, a time-travel back to the days of King Arthur at Camelot, and even an encounter with the first-ever vampire.

The 12-part series stars McGowan (Jamestown), Jessica Green (The Outpost), Olivia Morris (Hotel Portofino), and Bluey Robinson (Britannia). Caroline Loncq (Mammals) guest stars.

Dean Devlin serves as showrunner and executive producer alongside Marc Roskin and Rachel Olschan-Wilson of Electric Entertainment. Noah Wyle serves as producer. Mark Franco of Electric Entertainment and Jonathan English of Balkanic Media also produce.

The Librarians: The Next Chapter will premiere on Sunday, May 25 on TNT. New episodes release every Monday.
