The Equalizer Season 5 Episode 14 Review: The Grave Digger
While The Equalizer Season 5 Episode 14, “The Grave Digger,” is a great episode, it would have had a bigger impact if we had met the killer before. If, instead of giving us a two-minute flashback of what happened a year ago, the show had dedicated an entire episode to introduce the Grave Digger, the thrill would have been greater.
It makes sense that the introduction is done briefly because, in the end, the man who claims to be the Grave Digger isn’t the real killer. However, this reveal would have had a bigger impact if we had met this acolyte in detail. Having shown the chase the team went on to find him would have added to the storyline.
Nevertheless, the Grave Digger’s real identity makes for a good plot twist. What stands out the most from this storyline is the fact that people can finally understand why Robyn became a vigilante.

For the viewers, Robyn McCall being the equalizer makes sense. It is the storyline we were introduced to in the beginning, and watching her bring justice to those who need it the most has been exciting and rewarding.
However, for her character development and for the storyline to go somewhere, there had to be a reason for Robyn to choose this line of work. At a glance, it seems it was always the next step in her career after having left the CIA. But The Equalizer Season 5 Episode 14, “The Grave Digger,” reveals there is more to the story.
Having a serial killer be the one who pulls the truth out of her is also perfect for the development of her character. This interaction forces her to lie to Dante, meaning the storyline doesn’t end there. Sooner or later, Dante will discover Robyn lied to him about what happened between her and the Grave Digger.
Robyn abandoning her partner to complete a mission doesn’t surprise the viewers. It has always been clear that she does things for the greater good, so this new information doesn’t change the way we see her or the work she does. On the contrary, it adds to the reasoning behind the cases she chooses.
But Robyn’s lying to Dante is surprising. After telling him they would face the challenges of the relationship together, it is shocking that she chooses to keep something as big as this from him. After all, secrets shared with serial killers never stay a secret.
It will definitely be interesting to see what happens when the truth comes out.

It is normal for teenagers to go through an identity crisis and struggle when things don’t go their way. But as normal as that is, Delilah’s storyline has fallen flat and feels repetitive.
She has spent all of The Equalizer Season 5 second-guessing her actions, feeling sorry for herself, and calling herself dull for the choices she made in the past. While this has inevitably led her to act out and get in trouble when she wouldn’t have, that still doesn’t make up for the fact that her storyline is boring.
During previous seasons, Delilah was more sure of herself. She trained with Mel and her mom, stood up for what she believed in, and fought for what was right. Now, she is only repeating herself and has lost all the confidence that made her character such a strong one.
Hopefully, by the end of the season, Dee will be able to find her way back to being the confident teenage girl she was before. While it’s understandable that the college situation is dragging her down, there was a time when she knew she was more than a college election.
Whether it’s going to the college she wants or not, what matters is that she sees how strong she has always been. That is what makes her so valuable to the show.
