Will Trent Season 3 Episode 8 Review: Abigail B.
On-screen chemistry is not as easy as it looks. However, the cast of Will Trent shows their mastery of it in Will Trent Season 3 Episode 8, “Abigail B.” Three different television genres simultaneously play out in one hour.
It’s a rom-com, a thriller, and briefly a medical drama. These genres play out fairly well, especially with their limited time. The most fun, however, comes from Ormewood’s misadventures with Ariana Madix.
Their romantic comedy is such a fun departure from the show’s norm. It’s also a creative tribute to The Bodyguard — many people’s favorite romantic drama.
In Season 3, Will Trent excels at highlighting all the main characters. Jake McLaughlin’s role on the series increases with each season. However, Season 3 has been his best yet.
It allows him to shine as a comedic character and heartwarming figure. Now he can add convincing romantic leads to the many enticing Ormewood qualities.
They have the type of chemistry that makes you invest in this brief, but memorable, encounter. She needs to become a recurring character. We deserve more of the Ariana and Ormewood romance.
However, this may all help set him up as a viable bachelor. No longer a married man, but someone looking for love again.
This may be to set up a seemingly inevitable Faith and Ormewood romance. The start of “Abigail B” mentions that they’re now living together. We have a proximity romance situation possibly on the horizon.
For now, the show may want to remind the audience how enticing Ormewood can be as a love interest before Faith and him fall for each other.
It works.
Ariana Madix is the surprise of “Abigail B.” She’s instantly charming. Her character becomes this fun addition who constantly adds more impressive layers — her acting performance is also one of them.
By the end of the episode, you would gladly accept Madix as a new Will Trent cast member. Madix matches McLaughlin’s charisma in this unexpected romantic-comedy turn of events.
Love and romance are the main themes of “Abigail B.” We see three versions: The start of something, a new love story becoming deeper, and a fleeting romance.
Angie and Dr. Seth McDale only have a few scenes together but the chemistry between Scott Foley and Erika Christensen is also electric. They’re a pairing that will be exciting to see in future episodes.
Angie and Will dating other people is what the show needed because their love life has been one of the weaker parts of the series. Now, I am invested in seeing Angie and Seth’s relationship, and Will and Marion.
Will and Marion are seemingly moving too fast. However, “Abigail B,” does a lot to show why their relationship could work. Their moment towards the end of the episode is powerful.
It’s powerful because Will is allowed to be the nurturer that’s so ingrained into his essence, while Marion is allowed to be vulnerable. It shows a potential enduring love brewing between them.
“Abigail B.” works because of its interpersonal parts. The case of the kidnapped girl is thrilling but the human moments, like Marion and Will, and Will with Abigail, are what give this episode its levity and heart.
