The Pitt Season 1 Episode 9 Recap: 3:00pm

Recaps, The Pitt

It’s hour nine on The Pitt Season 1 Episode 9, “3:00pm,” and the death of a little girl has the entire team struggling to push through the remainder of the shift.

Robby gathers everyone and tries to give a pep talk while acknowledging that having a child die on the table is one of the harshest realities of the job. However, as much as there are good intentions behind his speech, they can’t afford to continue to be grief-stricken.

The Pitt, Dana, Collins and Robby

Adding more pain to an already heartbreaking situation, Collins reveals to Dana that she lost the baby and receives support from her. Dana insists she go home, but she refuses, saying that it will be worse.

She keeps avoiding Robby, who is very suspicious about her behavior. Personally, I am anticipating and dreading the inevitable conversation between the two of them.

Another overdose causes them to jump into action once more, with Santos’ and Langdon’s indiferences causing tensions while treating the patient. Santos quickly figures out what is wrong with the patient and starts treatment, and Langdon is upset that he wasn’t consulted and scolds Santos for thinking she knows more than him.

The ER is quickly becoming a boxing ring for Santos and Langdon, and while no one has gotten hurt yet, it’s coming. Maybe Santos’ instincts about Langdon are correct, and with six episodes left in the season, everything will hopefully come to light soon.

Meanwhile, tensions are rising in the overcrowded waiting room, patients are growing impatient, and a fight breaks out between two women. Dana, the ER’s moral compass, intervenes and deescalates the situation.

When the women have to be taken to be treated, this enrages the already violent Doug Driscoll. He tries to sneak into the ER, claiming that he has been waiting long enough, and Dana stops him and says that they tend to patients based on severity.

His anger gets the best of him, and he demands to leave, to which Langdon intervenes and says that it’s against medical advice and has him sign a form to not hold them liable for anything that happens to him.

He agrees and seemingly leaves to find help elsewhere. Well, Doug fools us all and returns with a vengeance.

When Dana is outside taking a much-deserved break, Doug assaults her, leaving her nearly unconscious in the ambulance bay.

Out of all The Pitt cliffhangers, this is one of the most intense. Dana has dedicated her life to helping people and being attacked for that reason will undoubtedly ruin what she considers a safe space.

For the entirety of the season, Doug’s behavior has grown a concerning amount, and it is no surprise that he finally got violent and even less surprising that he attacked a woman first. The question is if he will storm the ER and demand attention or if he simply ran away with an unknown destination.

One thing is certain: this is not the last time we will see Doug.
