Rescue: HI-Surf Season 1 Episode 10 Recap: Riptide
The North Shore team is back on Rescue: HI-Surf Season 1 Episode 10, “Riptide,” and the drama is more intense than ever. The episode dives straight into the action and chaos we have come to expect and love.
A local islander, Derek, spots a beach house owner’s ATV left on the lawn with the keys in the ignition and decides to steal it.
Derek speeds off down the beach, but while glancing behind him to check if anyone is following, he runs over a woman’s legs as she lies sun tanning.

Panicked about getting caught for both theft and injuring someone, Derek flees the scene, leaving the woman in pain. Fortunately, bystanders call it in, and Emily and Will arrive quickly.
After assessing the victim’s injuries, Emily stays behind to care for her while Will takes off on an ATV chase to stop Derek.
The pursuit ends when Jennings corners him, but not before Derek makes a desperate leap off a cliff. Thankfully, a lifeguard intercepts him on a jet ski and brings him to the authorities.
Back at the base, after the morning’s chaos, Jennings officially announces his retirement and reveals that Emily will take over as captain.
Eager to prove herself, Emily immediately bombards Jennings with community initiatives and team-building ideas. However, Jennings reins her in and introduces her to the less glamorous side of the job.

Her first task as captain is to attend a city council meeting to advocate for a new watchtower.
While it seems straightforward to stick to the script Jennings provided, Emily lets her emotions take over. She interrupts the opposition and ends up yelling, turning the situation into a disaster.
Jennings confronts Emily afterward, explaining that the captain’s role is highly sought after, and there’s a long list of people the higher-ups would prefer over her. He warns her to adapt to the political side of the job if she wants to keep the position.
Meanwhile, back on the beach, despite numerous warning signs about the strong current, a family ventures too close to the water, and their young boy is pulled in.
Laka and Kainalu spot the incident from the watchtower and spring into action, successfully rescuing the family.

However, Laka’s mood has been negative ever since he was robbed during the previous episode.
After the rescue, he lashes out, lecturing the family about ignoring the warnings. He also refuses to help the wife search for her lost family heirloom ring, saying it was her fault she lost it and she shouldn’t have brought it on a vacation.
Kainalu calls Laka out on his attitude, urging him to reflect on how he’s treating others, including their team.
After some self-reflection and a few games of surf polo, Laka realizes he’s been out of line. He dives back into the water to find and return the woman’s ring, making amends.
Emotions are running high as Hina finally confronts Kainalu about their recent hookup. She admits she enjoyed it but values the stability of their friendship and living situation over a fling. Kainalu takes it surprisingly well, showing his maturity and growth.
Meanwhile, Will faces a realization of his own: his fiancée, Julie, might not be the person he wants to spend the rest of his life with.

His doubts solidify when Emily confesses her feelings for him and expresses her desire to make a relationship work.
Will quickly reciprocates with an “I want you too” and a passionate kiss.
The episode ends with lingering questions: How will Julie react to the news that her wedding is off? Or will he even tell her yet? With plenty of episodes left in the season, fans can expect more drama to come.
