Chicago Med Season 10 Episode 10 Review: Broken Hearts

Chicago Med, Reviews

It has been obvious since the beginning of Chicago Med Season 10 that Maggie and Johnson’s relationship was on the rocks. Chicago Med Season 10 Episode 10, “Broken Hearts,” confirms this as the couple’s time together comes to an end.

However, those hoping this breakup would lead to something with Frost might be thinking clearly. Frost is the one who enlightens Maggie as to how the breakup should go, and in the end, he is the shoulder she leans on after the relationship is over.

It is also he who mentions the banter they have going on, pointing out something viewers have been eyeing from the moment he joined the show. Could it be Maggie’s next love interest has been in front of her all season long?

Even though conjoined twins storylines have been portrayed on medical shows several times, this is the first time on Chicago Med. Sadly, the twins’ storyline itself isn’t as intriguing and interesting as it could have been.

With their first introduction being in the ambulance because there’s no way (yet) to get them in the hospital, one would think the rest of their story would be just as chaotic and entertaining. However, it feels dull and it only helps Lenox’s character grow more on the audience (if that’s possible at all).

The most exciting part of their storyline is the idea of an innovative surgery with a technique that only Lenox has performed while deployed. Instead of showing us the surgery and how well Lenox does, we see the result, and it’s a sad one.

While it is very clear that Lenox knows what she is doing, it always feels like she is pushing patients to go a route they don’t want to just to prove she is right. She pushes the twins to go through with the surgery because she believes it’s right, but does she push because it is the best?

They could have both died if they didn’t go through with the surgery, but in the end, the twin who doesn’t want the surgery because he doesn’t want to lose his brother is the one who dies. This leaves us once again wondering if Lenox makes medical decisions because they’re the right choice or because she needs to prove herself.

The truth is that every time Lenox shows up, viewers are left wondering if they like her or not. Some moments make us believe she could be a likable character, but then everything is ruined again.

On Chicago Med Season 10 Episode 10, “Broken Hearts,” she makes it clear that she doesn’t understand emotions. However, Powell’s death makes her emotional (as much as she tries to hide it), pushing her to change her mind about Ripley’s friend.

This makes us like her a little better. Even though she had to push a surgery that the patients didn’t originally want, she has changed her mind about a man who they can actually keep safe and with his family.

However, by the time Ripley gets the okay from her, his friend is gone. If Ripley hadn’t spent so much time chasing Lenox around and begging her to help his friend, maybe his friend would be alive.

There will never be an answer to that, but once again we’re left wondering if Lenox is the kind of doctor that belongs in this ED. As much as she knows what she’s doing, it is hard for her to realize that everything at Gaffney runs on emotions and bonds.

Asher, her Sister, and Guilt

Just like we’ve seen Maggie’s relationship fall to pieces from the beginning of Chicago Med Season 10, we have seen Asher wanting to get close to her sister again. Chicago Med Season 10 Episode 10, “Broken Hearts,” gives her that opportunity.

When Lizzy first comes on the scene, we feel exactly like Frost as he talks to Hannah. Her presence feels like a manipulative act to try to get what she needs out of Asher because she knows how guilty her sister feels about the pain she caused her because of her addiction.

Ultimately, Asher does what will allow her to sleep better at night. She cannot commit insurance fraud, but she has the means to help her sister achieve her dream and make up for all the pain she caused her.

Hopefully, this will allow Hannah to continue to grow in her recovery journey.
