The Equalizer Season 5 Episode 6 Review: The Fight for Life

Reviews, The Equalizer

The Equalizer Season 5 Episode 6, “The Fight for Life,” is one of Queen Latifah’s best performances since the show started. By taking Robyn undercover, Latifah can showcase her many talents.

We see Robyn as herself, planning how to go inside the prison with Mel. But we also get to see her as an inmate, trying to establish her dominion to get what she wants and having to fight those who put her life at risk.

Once again, this wouldn’t have been possible without Mel and Harry’s help, so it is great to see that the trio is back together again.

As exciting as it is to see Mel go undercover with Robyn, we face the reality that she is still healing. Robyn was afraid that it would be too soon when Mel decided to get back to work. Even though the first case proved she could handle it, this case is quite triggering.

When Mel hits a guard to escape the situation safely, she is immediately triggered, and flashbacks from previous fights come back into her mind. Harry tries to talk to her and keep her calm, but Mel alone calms herself and ends her panic attack.

This is the kind of reaction we expected from Mel as she stepped back into her role. Even though it is clear that she is ready to be back because she has faced her trauma and acknowledges it, that doesn’t mean she is healed.

Mel is still working through everything that happened, so it’s no surprise that certain moments will be triggering. What must be highlighted, however, is that Mel is honest about her emotions and can open up to Harry about it.

It will be interesting to see if she ever mentions this instance to Robyn or if she is afraid that her friend might second-guess her work by knowing about it.

After The Equalizer Season 5 Episode 5, “Take My Life…Please!” when Robyn talks to Aunt Vi about her feelings for Dante, viewers might have believed that was the end of the love triangle between Robyn, Dante, and Miles.

However, the episode starts with Miles having breakfast at her house. Yes, he is there because he is talking to Delilah about her university options and will later meet her boyfriend, but his presence already changes the dynamic.

By the end of the episode, when Robyn mentions meeting someone for dinner, we are keen to believe she is talking about Dante. He used his FBI connections to get her out of prison, so a dinner seems like a step in the right direction.

Viewers are surprised to see that she meets Miles instead. The love triangle gets complicated and tense when Dante witnesses the hug and watches Robyn walk away with Miles.

Will this push him to pull away from Robyn further? Will he use this as an excuse not to pursue a relationship and continue to let distance be a challenge between them?

It is clear that even though Robyn has feelings for Dante, she finds a sense of comfort and familiarity in Miles that she needs after a terrible day on the job.

The Equalizer Season 5 continues to be one of the best seasons the show has aired. The characters’ deeper and more meaningful storylines allow the audience to connect with them better.

The love triangle between Robyn, Dante, and Miles adds another layer of complexity to Robyn’s character. Even though she is seen as an invincible woman, she has a raw side that makes her emotions a key component of her character.

It’ll be exciting and fun to see where the season takes the love triangle and the other characters.
