Jerrica Tisdale’s Top 10 TV Shows of 2024

Big Brother, Critic Picks, Will Trent

This year, very exciting television shows have been produced. We’ve witnessed plenty of exciting dramas, challenging limited series, thought-provoking mysteries, and everything in between. Cable channels, network television, and streaming services have all been putting their best efforts forward.

We have been thankful for so many great TV shows in 2024.

However, there have been an overwhelming number of options. Therefore, I still have so many to watch, including Shōgun, the final season of What We Do in the Shadows, and catch up on Ghosts. Therefore, this isn’t an exhaustive list of all the brilliant shows 2024 has to offer, but the ones I saw that left a lasting impression.

Here are my Top 10 favorite TV shows of 2024.

1. Baby Reindeer

Baby Reindeer is the series that I have thought about the most this year. It’s a show that haunts you. It also changes and reminds you of what great television can be, especially when creators pour their souls into a series.

Baby Reindeer feels strange, authentic, and painful.

It brings you into Richard Gadd’s trauma and healing journey. Baby Reindeer also features an array of powerful performances. Jessica Gunning as Martha is extraordinary in this Netflix hit.

Gadd’s Donny bleeds for the viewers and it leaves a devastating impression. Baby Reindeer is one of the most powerful shows of 2024.

2. Hacks

Hacks has always been an underrated comedy, but Season 3 makes people realize they can no longer ignore its genius. The third season has been the strongest one yet. Jean Smart and Hannah Einbinder do some of their best work in Hacks Season 3.

The season is all about furthering the complicated bonding and relationship between Deborah and Ava. They are one of my favorite dysfunctional pairs. Hacks Season 3 also allows Megan Stalter and Paul W. Downs to shine.

Kayla and Jimmy have often been Hacks’ kookiest pair, but Season 3 allows them more layers to highlight their charisma. Hacks is just hitting its prime, so I am excited to see where it goes next.

3. Fallout
Fallout
Ella Purnell (Lucy)

Fans of the Fallout game already know about this mesmerizing story. However, many others are just discovering the enchanting nature of this post-apocalyptic dramedy. Fallout greatly benefits from a strong cast.

Ella Purnell, Aaron Moten, and Walton Goggins, in particular, have a way of gripping you. I would watch those three actors in anything. Fallout shows what happens when the world ends, but I am excited to enter this new bleak world.

I know we’re just scratching the surface of this series, and I can’t wait to see where it goes next.

4. Big Brother

I have been a lifetime Big Brother watcher. I have watched every season since it premiered in 2000. It’s probably one of the shows that I know the most about, and I continue to watch it out of loyalty, not passion.

However, Big Brother 26 brought back my passion for this CBS reality TV show. Although it has had many hits and misses over its almost 25 years on American television, I truly mean it when I say this season felt special.

The very charming and likable cast may be one of the main reasons it’s been such an addictive season. Additionally, some format changes and decisions brought new life to Big Brother. Hopefully, the show has finally found its way back, and a new era can begin.

Big Brother 26 is a magical season that makes even the most critical fans happy (I know because I am one of them).

5. Nobody Wants This

I love romantic comedies, but it’s so rare that I find a romantic TV show that captures the excitement of a charming rom-com. Nobody Wants This delivers the comedy and the romance that makes the genre so special.

Adam Brody and Kristen Bell are perfectly matched as this couple that you just want to see happy. I never expected to ship Seth Cohen and Veronica Mars so much. Bell and Brody are dreamy together, but supporting characters also add to the series’ charm.

Justine Lupe, Timothy Simons, Jackie Tohn, and Trovah Feldshuh are all exceptional in Nobody Wants This. I hope the second season is just as strong, if not better, than the first.

6. The Day Of The Jackal
The Day of the Jackal – Season 1

In The Day of the Jackal, Eddie Redmayne once again proves he’s an actor I can count on to deliver a captivating performance. The Jackal is a fascinating villain that you can’t exactly hate but know you shouldn’t like. Lashana Lynch also gives an equally enthralling performance as Bianca, the Clarice to The Jackal’s Hannibal.

However, both characters are far more flawed and human than the Silence of the Lambs enemies. Bianca and Jackal’s flaws are what makes them compelling. The Day of the Jackal doesn’t quite feel like the standard thriller.

This adds to its character. I like that it works as a thriller but also just a very compelling drama about layered characters.

7. The Traitors

The Traitors has become one of my favorite reality TV shows. I am obsessed with it. I watch any and every version, but the second season of the American The Traitors is reality TV gold.

It had everything from viral moments to endless quotes to giant reality TV veterans. If you want top-notch reality TV, The Traitors is the perfect choice.

The Emmy-winning series highlights how great personalities can elevate a simple premise. Host Alan Cummings also adds his own brand of flair to this competition series. I now hope Peacock renews The Traitors for 50 more seasons.

8. Supacell

The superhero genre sometimes feels oversaturated. However, the world seems to still enjoy it, but they are not as dedicated as they were during the peak of the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Therefore, it’s hard to make a superhero show that feels fresh and exciting.

Enter Supacell. The Netflix series embraces the genre in a way that makes it feel less like a superhero show and more like an exploration of characters and their developing bond.

Supacell reminds me a lot of Misfits, but a version with mainly Black characters. I didn’t expect to enjoy this series as much as I did. I automatically became glued to Supacell. Now, I am anxiously awaiting the next season.

9. Diarra From Detroit

Diarra From Detroit Must-Watch-3

Diarra from Detroit is one of those hidden gem shows that many may have missed this year. However, I know it will eventually find its audience (especially if it continues or gets licensed on a bigger streaming service). It’s clever in the best possible way.

Diarra from Detroit follows Diarra, a woman who begins investigating the disappearance of a guy who she had a perfect date with. This quest leads to an even bigger mystery. The BET+ original takes a stab at the true crime genre in such a brilliantly silly way.

The sharp writing and inventive exploration of mystery and true crime really make Diarra from Detroit stand out in a sea of mystery shows.

10. Will Trent
RAMon RODRIGUEZ, ERIKA CHRISTENSEN in Will Trent Season 2
WILL TRENT – Do You See the Vision – Ramon Rodriguez, Erika Christensen (Disney/Daniel Delgado Jr.)

Will Trent becomes better with age. The first season gripped me but the second season confirms it’s not a one-hit wonder. Will Trent Season 2 may even be better than the first.

Season 2 includes the introduction to Will’s biological family, a season-long mystery with a shocking twist, and layers being added to these already fascinating characters.

I can’t wait to see what Will Trent Season 3 brings.
