Tamera Mowry-Housley Talks Hallmark Channel’s ‘Scouting for Christmas’ [Interview]
The Holiday season is fast approaching, and Hallmark Channel is here with a long list of new festive releases, including Scouting for Christmas, for families and viewers to enjoy.
I recently spoke with Tamera Mowry-Housley, who plays Angela in the film, about what viewers can expect from Scouting for Christmas. (You can watch the full interview below.)

Most Christmas films are often created and centered around wanting to be touching for children, but in Scouting for Christmas, viewers are able to focus more on the life of this single mother.
Mowry-Housley explained why this was an important and special aspect of why she took on the project.
“The script I really resonated with because I’m a mother. I know how hard it is to be a mom and have a partner. So being a single mom, I gotta give props to those women. Even though you see her (Angela) struggling, I love that she’s not the perfect mom. She’s just trying her best. And I feel that when you’re trying your best, that’s all you need,” Mowry-Housley said.

“I feel like there are different facets of motherhood. Motherhood can look different, but as long as you have that foundation of love, strength, and stability, then we’re good.”
“And that’s who Angela is; she believes in community. And most importantly, she believes in family, no matter how different that looks. She just wants people to be happy,” she added.

Along with family being a huge part of the film, Angela is also able to try out some tasty treats when she teams up with William (Carlo Marks), her daughter’s favorite baker, for her scout’s upcoming holiday ball.
So in true holiday fashion, I had to ask Mowry-Housley what she thinks Angela’s favorite seasonal treat is, as well as her personal favorite.
“I think Angela, because she’s a little feisty and spicy, she’s gotta have a little bit of ginger in anything. So gingerbread cookies, or a gingerbread cupcake kind of situation. She talks about the peppermint cocoa too, but she’s gotta have a little kick in all of her treats because she’s funky.”
“I love a really good sugar cookie. People are always like, ‘Oh my gosh, Tamera, you’re so sweet. Oh my gosh, you’re so nice,’ that’s a sugar cookie. I love sugar cookies, but they have to be warm and moist on the inside. With a bit of sugar and crunch on the top,” Mowry-Housley said.

With her dream sugar cookie requirements being very specific, Mowry-Housley explained that it’s a work in progress to recreate her ideal sugar cookie.
“I’ve made that once. I was like, ‘Oh my gosh, this is perfect.’ I wanted to make another batch, and I haven’t been able to do it…It’s been two years. So now I’m like, ‘What did I do?’ I even called my baker friend to ask what I was doing wrong,” she said.
“I have all the ingredients. I literally do it step by step, but maybe it’s the temperature of the butter or the length of the mixing. It has to be something like that. But yeah, I love a moist, soft, warm sugar cookie. It’s so complex.”
Scouting for Christmas premiered Sunday, October 20, at 8/7c on Hallmark Channel.
