FROM Season 2 Episode 208: Forest for the Trees FROM: 10 Things You Need to Know Before Watching Season 3

FROM: 10 Things You Need to Know Before Watching Season 3

From, Lists

In honor of MGM+’s FROM returning on September 22, now is the perfect time for a refresher ahead of Season 3.

A lot has happened in the span of two seasons. From getting trapped in a town with no escape to scary and unknown creatures coming out at night to hunt the townspeople, it can be hard to keep track of everything.

To help you prepare as we dive back into this twisted world, here are ten things you need to know before watching FROM Season 3:

1. Boyd’s Wormy Blood
FROM Season 2 Episode 206: Pas De Deux
FROM Season 2 Episode 206: Pas De Deux

Season 2 starts with Boyd stuck in a well after he enters a faraway tree to escape the forest’s darkness. After he calls for help, a random rope falls, allowing him to climb back to “safety.”

The top of the well reveals what looks to be a dark and abandoned chamber room, except for the one old man named Martin, who is chained to the wall alongside the corpses of his friends.

Boyd learns that this place is where “they” torture people who get stuck. We never find out who “they” are, but it’s safe to assume “they” are the creatures that come out at night to hunt townspeople.

After being chained and tortured for what seems to be many years, it’s no surprise that Martin asks Boyd to kill him. But in true Boyd fashion, he believes he can save anyone and proceeds to get Martin free of the chains.

However, when Martin hears the music box stop, he says it’s “too late” and proceeds to gift Boyd these weird worms that crawl through the body. Later, it’s revealed that although these worms slowly kill Boyd, he can transfer it to others. Testing a theory, Boyd stands outside at night, cuts open a monster, and transfers his infected blood.

Shockingly, this kills the monster on the spot and gives the townspeople a new sense of hope that they can fight off the evil.

2. The Mysterious Music Box
FROM Season 2 Episode 209: Ball of Magic Fire
FROM Season 2 Episode 209: Ball of Magic Fire

The music box that appears right before Martin gives Boyd the wormy blood appears throughout Season 2.

But every time it appears in a scene, it’s followed by darkness and pain. What initially starts as something only people with the infected blood in them can see slowly becomes something that all the townspeople can see.

At the end of Season 2, Boyd receives a message from Sarah: “In order to save the people that are in a trance, you must stop the music.”

Wanting to save the suffering people, Boyd ventures back to the place where he first found Martin. Yet, right before he’s about to burn it, the ghost of his dead wife appears, begging him not to break it.

She claims that breaking the music box will only prolong the people’s suffering by giving them hope, which she explains is what evil feeds on. Realizing that the dark spirits are trying to get in his head, Boyd destroys the box, freeing the people in a trance.

Whether or not it will stay destroyed will be determined in the upcoming season.

3. Cicada Attacks
FROM Season 2 Episode 208: Forest for the Trees
FROM Season 2 Episode 208: Forest for the Trees

Since everything is connected in the FROM universe, it makes sense that after Boyd killed the monster with his wormblood, he and Kristi decided to keep the corps to dissect.

This doesn’t turn out well when they realize the monster’s insides are dry and empty. After leaving it alone for a night, they return to find the body covered in cicadas, which makes no sense to them because the room has been locked, so there’s no way the bugs could have gotten in.

Like most things in this town, the cicadas are part of the evil in this place.

They fly around town and create a constant eerie noise. Even worse, these bugs crawl into the mouths of Marielle, Julie, and Randall and put them in a trance-like state that is slowly and painfully killing them.

Despite Boyd destroying the box and saving those in a trance, we still don’t know where the cicadas went.

4. Food Worries
FROM Season 2 Episode 210: Once Upon A Time…
FROM Season 2 Episode 210: Once Upon A Time

A question that fans have had since Season 1: “How much food do they have?”

Now we’re learning that going into season 3, the evil powers are fighting with the townspeople and killing all of their crops by making the soil toxic to their plants.

This means the people stuck here are on a countdown to find a way out fast because all the rations they saved from Season 2 are the last of their sources.

5. Elgin’s Dreams
FROM Season 2 Episode 207: Belly of the Beast
FROM Season 2 Episode 207: Belly of the Beast

Since coming into town in season 2, Elgin has been known for having seizures and health scares that have resulted in him having strangely vivid dreams.

But after a while, people start to realize that these aren’t dreams; they’re visions of what’s happening in this place.

Of course, they don’t give any key answers or solutions to what is happening, but these visions do provide the townspeople with the chance to prepare for what is to come.

6. Fatima’s Pregnancy
FROM Season 2 Episode 207: Belly of the Beast
FROM Season 2 Episode 207: Belly of the Beast

As Elgin revealed while discussing one of his dreams, Fatima is pregnant.

This might not seem like a big deal, but for Fatima, it is. Before she got stuck in this town, several doctors had told her it was medically impossible for her ever to get pregnant.

Instead of being excited by the news of finally having a child, Fatima takes it as though the evil in this place is playing a sick trick on her.

While Ellis and the other townspeople are trying to remain positive, it wouldn’t be surprising if the dark forces had something bigger planned for Fatima’s miracle baby.

7. Jade’s Symbol
FROM Season 2 Episode 208: Forest for the Trees
FROM Season 2 Episode 208: Forest for the Trees

Another unexplained mystery from Season 2 is what the symbol means that Jade keeps seeing everywhere.

He first sees the symbol drawn in blood on a wall in the colony house, followed by a creepy doll screaming at him. Jade thinks he’s going crazy because no one else sees it.

He later sees this symbol repeatedly throughout Season 2 until one day, Mrs. Liu sees him drawing it and shows him an old book that an older resident of the town left. Not only does it have the same symbol drawn on it, but it also has a Polaroid picture of Victor as a kid.

Jade takes this as a sign that Victor knows more than he’s letting on about the town.

8. Victor’s Past
FROM Season 2 Episode 208: Forest for the Trees
FROM Season 2 Episode 208: Forest for the Trees

Victor has been in the town for the longest. It’s his home since he got stuck here as a kid, and now he’s a grown man.

Given his extended stay and what he’s seen, it makes sense that he has some memories he’s suppressing. One of the big memories that he ends up remembering in Season 2 is that it wasn’t just him and his mother stuck here; he also had a sister who was with them.

Not much is known about his sister, but he does open up to Tabitha about how he lost her and his mother. Before, there were talismans to protect villagers from the monsters, but every night, they would have to hide in new spots in hopes that they wouldn’t be found.

One night, Victor’s mother said that she had to go to the lighthouse to help the children, which he found strange since there were no other children. So she left him and his sister in a bunker and ran to the bottle tree.

Unable to listen to their mom and not wanting to be left alone, Victor’s sister ran after their mother while Victor stayed hidden.

Once it was morning, Victor looked for his family and found only his mother’s body beside the bottle tree.

9. Visions of Dead Kids
FROM Season 2 Episode 210: Once Upon A Time
FROM Season 2 Episode 210: Once Upon A Time

When Victor’s mom said she had to help the children, these were the kids she meant. In Season 2, Tabitha starts to see kids calling out strange words to her, and they seem to need her help.

As the season progresses, we see these dead-looking children more and more frequently.

Even though what the children are saying is never revealed, Tabitha takes it as a sign to figure out what they want and how to help them find peace.

10. The Lighthouse
FROM Season 2 Episode 210: Once Upon A Time
FROM Season 2 Episode 210: Once Upon A Time

Finally, there’s the lighthouse that Victor’s mother was trying to get to to “help the kids,” which ends up being the same place that Tabitha realizes she has to go to to save those kids.

Even though Jim isn’t a fan of this plan, this is before Julie wakes up from her trance, so they consider it their best chance at saving her. Once Victor takes her to the bottle tree, Tabitha is transported right outside the entrance to the lighthouse.

After climbing the steps to the top of the lighthouse and chasing the voices of the children who had been calling to her, the boy in white appears behind her.

He apologizes and says, “This is the only way,” before pushing her out the top window of the building.

Tabitha then wakes up in a hospital room, where a nurse tells her that “three days ago some hikers found you outside of the woods.” And in looking out the room window, it seems as though she’s back in civilization — or is she?
