Following her win for Outstanding Supporting Actress in a Drama Series for The Crown, Elizabeth Debicki spoke with reporters backstage at the 76th Emmy® Awards about her work on the show.

Debicki, of course, played the role of Princess Diana on The Crown, and this is her first-ever Emmy win.

“I have been really surprised to win each award. It’s a real honor to me,” Debicki said, reacting to the win. Prior to the Emmys, Debicki won a Critics Choice Award, Golden Globe Award, Astra Award, and Screen Actors Guild Award for the role.

“Each of them sort of seems to mean something a little different, and I’m quite new to this side of the job. I’ve never been nominated for things before, so I don’t take it for granted, and it’s really lovely.”

Debicki also shared what she felt most proud of when it came to being a part of the series.

“I’m really proud of being a part of a portrayal that felt, to me, that it was very layered, and it had a kind of authenticity we tried to bring to it,” she said.

“The relationship that I managed to create with Khalid Abdalla, who played Dodi, was one that we thought very deeply about how to portray that on screen. It felt very important that we were very specific about what we wanted to say, knowing that we do not know. So we had to sort of go along with Peter’s interpretation, and then sort of created it ourselves as well. So I think that’s probably what I’m proudest of.”

“And I am also very proud of the show,” Debicki continued.

“I think that the work in it is really incredible, and the actors are amazing, and all the craftsmanship in it is amazing. It’s definitely been the greatest privilege of my career so far to be part of that show.”
