Yellowjackets Season 3 Adds Joel McHale in Guest Role
Yellowjackets Season 3 still does not have a firm release date, but fans have gotten a tasty morsel of news.
Variety reports and Deadline corroborates that Joel McHale (Community, The Bear) has joined the Showtime on Paramount+ series.
The report comes with no details about what role McHale will play, but the appearance is described as a guest star.
If you’re unacquainted: Yellowjackets follows two parallel timelines. The first is set in 1996, when a New Jersey high school girls’ soccer team, the Yellowjackets, takes a plane ride to a national game and crashes in the Canadian wilderness.
The second, set in 2021, follows the survivors as they remain haunted by what they did to survive years prior. The mystery of what that was is the series’ driving force.
Yellowjackets blends survival/folk horror in the 1996 storyline with prestige/paperback plotting in the 2021 arc.
The Yellowjackets cast includes Shauna (played by Melanie Lynskey in the present and Sophie Nelisse in the past), Natalie (Juliette Lewis and Sophie Thatcher), Taissa (Tawny Cypress and Jasmin Savoy Brown), Misty (Christina Ricci and Samantha Hanratty), Lottie (Simone Kessell and Courtney Eaton), and Van (Lauren Ambrose, Liv Hewson).
It’s possible that McHale will appear in the present day storyline on Yellowjackets.
His screen persona fits much better into that arc’s black comedy tone. If he were to show up in the 1996 wilderness, that would have huge ramifications on the story and reveal the Yellowjackets aren’t as alone out there as they thought.
Yellowjackets Season 1 aired in fall 2021. The second season began with Yellowjackets Season 2 Episode 1, “Friends, Romans, Countrymen,” in March 2023. It ended with Yellowjackets Season 2 Episode 9, “Storytelling,” in May 2023.
According to Nerdist, a “bonus episode” filmed during the second season will also premiere at an unknown point between Season 2 and Season 3. The show’s third season is currently filming, and it’s expected to premiere in 2025.
