Criminal Record Renewed for Season 2 at Apple TV+
Daniel Hegarty and June Lenker will team up again!
Apple TV+ renewed Criminal Record, starring and executive produced by Peter Capaldi and Cush Jumbo, for Season 2.
The thriller series follows Detective Chief Inspector Daniel Hegarty (Capaldi) and Detective Sergeant June Lenker (Jumbo) as “two brilliant detectives clashing” during “a complex murder investigation.”
Set and filmed in London, Criminal Record Season 2 finds June “the senior officer on the scene when a political rally is attacked by far-right counter-protestors,” per Apple TV+’s season description.
A “violent clash leaves a young man dead,” and June, who feels guilty about his passing, “is desperate to bring the unknown killer to justice.” That mission leads June back to Daniel, “now a key figure in the shadowy world of police intelligence.”
Although, to get Daniel’s help means that June “will have to accept a dangerous bargain.”
Criminal Record’s Season 2 renewal is welcomed but not surprising as Cush Jumbo seemingly confirmed the news on Watch What Happens Live With Andy Cohen in February.
When asked about a sophomore season, Jumbo said, “There will be, yeah.” However, at the time, TV Line reports that an Apple rep told the outlet a Criminal Record Season 2 “had yet to be formally picked up.”
The series comes from BAFTA Award nominee Paul Rutman. It debuted with a two-episode premiere in January 2024. The eight-episode season concluded with Criminal Record Season 1 Episode 8, “Carla,” in Febrauary 2024.
The first season starred Charlie Creed-Miles as Tony Gilfoyle, Dionne Brown as DC Chloe Summers, Shaun Dooley as DS Kim Cardwell, Stephen Campbell Moore as Leo Hanratty, Zoë Wanamaker as Maureen, Rasaq Kukoyi as Patrick Burrowes, Maisie Ayres as Lisa, Aysha Kala as Sonya Singh, Cathy Tyson as Doris Mathis, and Tom Moutchi as Errol Mathis.
Tod Productions and STV Studios produce Criminal Record for Apple TV+. BAFTA Scotland Award winner Elaine Collins is joined by Chris Sussman as executive producer for Season 2, with Rutman, Capaldi and Jumbo.
