Based on a True Story Season 2 Premiere Date Announced by Peacock

Kaley Cuoco’s Ava discovers that her true crime obsession is far from over on Based on a True Story Season 2.

Peacock announced that the dark comedic thriller will return on Thursday, November 21. According to TV Line, all eight 30-minute episodes will drop that day.

Based on a True Story Season 2 picks up three months into Ava and Nathan Barlett’s lives as new parents. Ava tries to focus on her work as a real estate agent, and Chris Messina’s Nathan succeeds as a private tennis trainer. But that only lasts until a new series of murders sucks Ava back into her old ways. 

That twist raises questions like, “Is Matt behind the slayings? Is Tory now entangled in a relationship with Matt, in danger? For a while, life is good — Ava’s TikTok habit and her new friend Drew provide a welcome distraction, and Nathan’s all in on reigniting his tennis career as well as his friendship with Matt — until danger comes knocking, literally,” per the season’s synopsis.

Annie Weisman will be this season’s showrunner. Creator Craig Rosenberg was the showrunner for Season 1.

“I first discovered Based on a True Story as a fan of Kaley Cuoco and Chris Messina, and I instantly loved the show’s addictive blend of dark humor, pulpy action, and relatable characters,” Weisman says in a statement, per Deadline.

“In Season 2, we’ve built on those exciting themes while introducing propulsive new character dynamics and a forward-moving murder mystery,” Weisman added.

Alongside Cuoco and Messina, Based on a True Story stars Tom Bateman as Matt, Liana Liberato as Tory, and Melissa Fumero as Drew.

As previously reported, Peacock renewed the series for a second season in October 2023. Its eight-episode debut season premiered on Peacock in June 2023. 

Based on a True Story‘s executive producers include writers Weisman and Jaclyn Moore, stars Cuoco and Messina, Jason Bateman & Michael Costigan (Aggregate Films), Craig Rosenberg, and director Alex Buono.

The series comes from UCP, a division of Universal Studio Group.
