“Three years after winning Squid Game, Player 456 remains determined to find the people behind the game and put an end to their vicious sport,” per the Season 2 official synopsis.

“Using this fortune to fund his search, Gi-hun starts with the most obvious of places: look for the man in a sharp suit playing ddakji in the subway. But when his efforts finally yield results, the path toward taking down the organization proves to be deadlier than he imagined: to end the game, he needs to re-enter it.”

In a letter to fans, Hwang Dong-hyuk — a director, writer, and executive producer of Squid Game — wrote, “Seong Gi-hun who vowed revenge at the end of Season 1 returns and joins the game again. Will he succeed in getting his revenge? Front Man doesn’t seem to be an easy opponent this time either.”

“The fierce clash between their two worlds will continue into the series finale with Season 3, which will be brought to you next year,” Hwang stated.

Squid Game Season 1 ended with Gi-hun unwillingly winning the deadly games after defeating his childhood friend turned rival, Sang-woo.

A year or so after winning, Gi-hun stumbles across the recruiter in the middle of a game of ddakji in the subway and rushes over to stop this new person from unknowingly joining the next squid game. Gi-hun takes the game’s calling card the recruiter leaves behind and calls the number as he’s boarding a plane.

Front Man interrupts Gi-hun’s ranting on the phone, telling him to get on the plane. In the final moments of the season, Gi-hun doesn’t get on the plane, signifying that he’s not done with the games yet. He’s coming for them.
