Betty La Fea, The Story Continues Season 1 Episodes 1 and 2 Review: Reunions / Betty Takes Power

Reviews

Nostalgia can be a powerful force. That’s why shows must wield it wisely. Thankfully, Betty La Fea, The Story Continues shows the good side of it. It can be euphoric.

Betty La Fea, The Story Continues Season 1 Episode 1, “Reunions,” and Betty La Fea, The Story Continues Season 1 Episode 2, “Betty Takes Power” remind us of the beauty in ugly.

These premiere episodes set the bar high and should satisfy longtime fans of the popular telenovela and those new to it. Many may anticipate that the show only caters to the dedicated fan base, but from a new viewer’s perspective, it’s just as appealing to those unfamiliar with Yo Soy Betty, La Fea.

Nevertheless, it may not attract those completely unaware of the magic of telenovelas. Even with the Prime Video weekly format, it still feels true to the telenovela spirit.

The comfort of the genre helps make this continuation show a must-see experience.

It has some classic telenovela aspects but with a bit more of an edge. It also works on a multigenerational level.

Your telenovela-loving elders will love Betty La Fea, The Story Continues, and the young adult telenovela crowd might also find it interesting.

However, the biggest proof of the show’s strength is its ability to draw in a crowd unfamiliar with or are not experts on the original series.

I know of the show’s history, massive popularity, and many successful remakes. Ugly Betty used to be one of my favorite TV shows. However, I am unfamiliar with Yo Soy Betty, La Fea.

I only know as much as Wikipedia can tell me, and what’s shown on “Reunions” and “Betty Takes Power.” Despite my lack of knowledge about the original, I became fully absorbed in Betty La Fea, The Story Continues.

Fans of the first TV series will understand all the references, and jokes, and have no trouble returning to Beatriz’s world. New fans will have to work a bit to understand the characters and relationships. However, it’s worth the commitment and initial confusion.

If you’re new to the series, it doesn’t take long to grasp the important details, so by “Betty Takes Power,” you understand enough to embrace the journey.

Betty La Fea, The Story Continues makes long-time and new fans want to tune in weekly.

Its simplicity has the same appeal as shows with grand cliffhangers and reveals each episode.

We will gladly tune in just to find out how Betty navigates her return to the presidency at Ecomoda. It’s a testament to the timeless appeal of telenovelas.

They know how to grip an audience. The what comes next of it all really helps invest viewers into this next chapter for Betty and the crew.

You can already predict where some of these storylines are going, but for telenovela fans, the predictability is a familiar comfort. We want to see how Beatriz and Armando fall back in love.

We need the hijinks of Betty running the company as president. Then, we want to see which one of Mila’s many potential suitors she ends up with (it’s Nacho, right?). The series uses simple storytelling, which has worked for telenovelas for decades, to hook you.

Betty La Fea, The Story Continues offers comedy, romance, and nostalgia. It’s not just a nostalgic experience for fans of Yo Soy Betty, La Fea, but for fans of any of its many remakes.

It’s also just a fun experience that acts as a reminder of the power of telenovelas and Betty herself.
