S.W.A.T. Renewed for Season 8 on CBS, Reversing Two Cancellations

Surprise! S.W.A.T. is coming back for another season on CBS.

The network renewed the drama series for Season 8 for the 2024/2024 programming season, reversing two cancellations.

S.W.A.T. was initially canceled after six seasons in May 2023, but CBS reversed the decision and renewed the series for a seventh and final season.

“Here at CBS, we always ‘stay liquid’ and love a good dramatic twist, especially when it leads to an eighth season of S.W.A.T.!,” Amy Reisenbach, president of CBS Entertainment, said.

“The show continues to resonate with viewers thanks to our talented cast led by Shemar Moore and our amazing writers and producers who keep the show relevant and action-packed,” Reisenbach added.

“We’re very pleased to renew it again and incredibly grateful to our partners at SONY, CBS Studios, and Shemar for working so closely with us to bring it back for next season,” Reisenbach concluded.

The procedural drama’s renewal joins those for The Neighborhood (Season 7), NCIS (Season 22), FBI (Season 7), FBI: Most Wanted (Season 6), FBI: International (Season 4), Ghosts (Season 4), Fire Country (Season 3), and NCIS: Sydney (Season 2).

“It’s a privilege to get to deliver more S.W.A.T. stories to our incredible fans,” executive producer and co-showrunner Shawn Ryan said.

Shemar Moore stars as Daniel “Hondo” Harrelson, “an L.A. born and raised S.W.A.T. Sergeant who leads an elite tactical team that is the last stop in law enforcement in Los Angeles,” per the show’s synopsis.

S.W.A.T. also stars Jay Harrington, David Lim, Patrick St. Esprit, Rochelle Aytes, and Anna Enger Ritch. The show’s seventh season premiered with S.W.A.T. Season 7 Episode 1, “The Promise,” on Friday, February 16, at 8/7c on CBS

CBS shares, “S.W.A.T. is a time period winner in viewers and a top 20 primetime broadcast drama, ranking #17 overall season to date with 6.1 million in Nielsen Most Current data. With live +35-day multiplatform viewing, S.W.A.T. delivers 8.8 million viewers an episode and is up +11% year over year.”
