Preview — Sugar Season 1: A Refresh of a Classic Genre
Apple TV+’s new neo-noir drama, Sugar, will introduce viewers to the latest in a long line of onscreen private detectives.
Colin Farrell stars in the series as John Sugar, an American private investigator. He is hired by the legendary Hollywood producer Jonathan Siegel to find his granddaughter, Olivia.
Of course, as with any good detective story, things aren’t what they seem, and clients don’t always tell you the whole story. As he searches for Oliva, Sugar will uncover secrets that take the investigation in some unexpected directions and give viewers plenty of twists and turns.
With an atmospheric, moody style, the series pays tribute to the noir stories that inspired it as it looks to update the genre for a new audience.
Sugar was created by Mark Protosevich and, along with Farrell stars Kirby Howell-Baptiste (The Sandman), Amy Ryan (The Wire), James Cromwell (Succession), Anna Gunn (Breaking Bad), Dennis Boutsikaris (Better Call Saul), Nate Corddry (Mindhunter), Sydney Chandler (Don’t Worry Darling), and Alex Hernandez (Invasion).
