Preview — Wild Cards Season 1 Episode 4: Strangers on a Wave
Ellis and Max switch places when Ellis goes undercover as a surfer on Wild Cards Season 1 Episode 4, “Strangers on a Wave.”
Ellis knows that surfers (apparently) hate cops, so he asks Chief Li to let him go undercover to discover the truth behind another surfer who was shot and washed up on the beach. That plan results in Li and Max saying, “Oh my God,” in unison while Ellis, wearing a wetsuit and holding a surfboard, runs in slow motion.
If that’s not enough to anticipate “Strangers on a Wave,” Wild Cards will amplify the competition between Ellis & Max and Simmons & Yates. In the promo videos, Simmons tells Ellis, “Let the detectives who weren’t demoted do their jobs.”

It seems that Ellis will prove he’s the man for the job by selling his cover and punching Simmons. Unfortunately for Ellis, it looks like that scheme results in a fake arrest where Simmons may get a few licks in, too.
But don’t worry, it wouldn’t be Wild Cards without Max veering from the plan.
Though she’s meant to be on the detective side of this case, the promo video for “Strangers on a Wave” sees her sporting a blond wig and floral dress when she falls through the ceiling, potentially blowing her cover and the larger case.
“Strangers on a Wave” also stars Terry Chen, Michael Xavier, Amy Goodmurphy, Fletcher Donovan, and Jonesy.
