La Brea Season 3 Episode 6 Review: The Road Home, Part 2
As far as series finales go, La Brea Season 3 Episode 6, “The Road Home, Part 2,” deserves its five stars for tying every loose end and not leaving us wondering what, why, who, when.
By starting the episode with a recap of everyone’s journey and very specific flashbacks of moments that happened throughout the series, the show is already letting us know the key points it’ll touch upon in this final episode.
And that is exactly what La Brea does because, by the end of the series, every story has the ending it deserves. As viewers, we are rewarded by watching our favorite characters make it back home with or to the people they love.

This final episode of La Brea proves once more that the show has always been about family — the family you fell through the sinkhole with, the one you made along the way in 10,000 B.C., and the one waiting for you back home.
From the beginning, the storyline has always been about finding one another and together finding a way back home. If at moments there were doubts they were all going to make it back or they’d find a way back, La Brea Season 3 Episode 6, “The Road Home, Part 2,” does both things perfectly.
It makes sense that Sam and Riley go through the aurora together first to save Riley’s life. Sam’s goal has always been to keep his daughter safe, and by the end of the series, he is able to bring her home in one piece.
Watching the clearing people line up to go through the aurora back to 2021 is a very special moment. It’s the last time they will be in that place that threw a bunch of strangers together and challenged them to trust each other in order to stay alive.
Veronica being the last one to go through and leaving Lucas behind is the perfect example of wanting to get home to be safe but having to leave your family behind to fight for those who helped you make it back.
From the moment she crosses the aurora until we know Lucas makes it back safely, we are terrified that he won’t make it back to her and the baby. But the reunion is perfect as we find out their baby is strong and healthy.

La Brea comes full circle when the red and blue auroras close, and Gavin, Helena, Josh, Izzy, Lucas, and Scott must find another way home.
Of course, the alternative is Gavin flying the plane that got everyone here in the first place. If it weren’t for the military’s time-traveling plans, none of them would have made it to 10,000 B.C.
Having Gavin fly them all back home gives us a sense of peace. They are safe, and even if something were to happen, he’d protect them.
But the show also comes full circle when, in order to go back to 2021, they must go through the green aurora that Eve first saw in the sky the night they fell through the sinkhole. That is how they got there, and that is how they get out.

There are a few quotes on La Brea Season 3 Episode 6, “The Road Home, Part 2,” that definitely make us feel (and remind us) that the show is ending.
When the auroras close, Izzy says, “It can’t end like this.” That is exactly how we feel as viewers. They couldn’t have made it that far for them to get stuck in 10,000 B.C.
Luckily, it gets resolved and they find an alternative. That is when Ty says, “It appears our journey has come to an end.”
It’s true their journey from the sinkholes to surviving in 10,000 B.C. is over, but that’s not the only one. Our journey as viewers with these characters we have come to love is also over. It’s the last time we will see them.
The last two quotes are reminders of the bonds these characters have created while struggling to stay alive, fighting dinosaurs, and traveling through time. The first one is when Lucas says, “We’re family.”
The second one is Sam telling Gavin they are “friends for life.” No matter what happens from here on out, these characters will stay in each others’ lives because “what happens in 10,000 B.C. doesn’t stay in 10,000 B.C.”

Saying goodbye to a show and the characters we love is never easy. However, it feels a little easier or more comforting when that show ends in a good place.
La Brea does exactly that by giving everyone the happy ending they deserve. Ty stays back with his wife, Paara.
Sam and Riley make it back to their family. Gavin, Izzy, and Josh find Eve. Lucas and Veronica hear their baby’s heartbeat. Scott reunites with the girl he loves.
La Brea will be missed, but it at least leaves us back in 2021, where we know our characters will thrive.
