Fire Country Season 2 Episode 1 Review: Something’s Coming
Bode is on a mission for a resolution on Fire Country Season 2 Episode 1, “Something’s Coming.”
Picking up six months later after Season 1 Episode 22, “I Know It Feels Impossible,” Bode is still locked up for a crime he didn’t commit. Meanwhile, Manny has been demoted for his actions at Three Rock, with Eve promoted in his place.
Sharon and Vince are on the outs thanks to their viewpoint on Bode’s situation, Gabriela is getting closer and closer to becoming a certified medical firefighter, and Jake has taken over as Chief for Cal Fire.
A lot has changed since Season 1 on Fire Country, and while the dynamics may be a bit skewed, the family-centric series fans know and love is still at the forefront.

Ending It Once and For All
Following Bode as he navigates his newfound home in prison, we learn that over the course of six months, he’s slowly started accumulating write-ups in an effort to get closer to Sleeper.
Bode’s actions eventually lead to a face-to-face between him and Sleeper, but the aftershock of an earthquake causes the infrastructure to collapse and the dynamics to change.
Instead of killing Sleeper as intended, Bode makes a deal for Sleeper to clear his name with Three Rock and take accountability for bringing drugs in, a request Sleeper complies with.

Season 2 Episode 1, “Something’s Coming,” is a fast-paced, storyline-centric episode that carefully approaches each character’s dilemmas. That’s why I am so opposed to the conclusion between Sleeper and Bode.
While Bode being free of the constraints of the prison was always the goal for fans going into this season, it’s entirely too rushed. The series spent a good majority of the backend of Season 1 setting up the confrontation between Bode and Sleeper and has been at the forefront of what fans expect in Season 2.
Instead of coming to a resolution and being freed in one episode, Bode should have fought his way out for at least three episodes. It doesn’t feel like adequate storyline writing for his character to have that type of build-up, only for it to play out in the span of a forty-two-minute episode.

O’ Captain, My Captain
Eve has taken over as the brand-new captain of Three Rock, and instead of only having to deal with the crew’s attitude thanks to a leadership change, she’s also dealing with pushback from Manny.
While Manny’s actions and inability to deter drugs from entering the camp in Season 1 were the sole cause of his demotion, he’s taking it personally because he’s always felt like Eve was out for his job.
Now that she has it, Manny is snapping at her for things outside of her control, like Beck sneaking in contraband and being sent back to prison. Where he held leniency for people, Eve is sticking to the code and protecting herself, but by doing so, she’s also helping everyone at Three Rock.
Manny may be upset at the consequences of his actions, but under his supervision, Three Rock was becoming infested with drugs, and he had no clue. A much-needed heart-to-heart is needed between the two if they ever hope to work copacetically again.
It’s thrilling to think about all the change that could come thanks to Eve’s new leadership this season, and I cannot wait to see it come to fruition.

Will You Marry Me?
One of the most infuriating aspects of the season premiere is Gabriela’s new relationship with fellow medical firefighter and new cast addition, Diego, played by Dynasty alum Rafael de la Fuente.
The frustration doesn’t come solely from implementing a brand-new love interest for Gabriela but rather from the fashion in which he’s being presented. It’s only been six months since Bode’s imprisonment, and the two are already celebrating their four-month anniversary.
The icing on the cake to the already forced relationship at hand is an unnecessary and unwarranted one-month time jump at the end of the episode that is only utilized to push the next steps in their relationship.
While it’s not uncommon for people to get engaged within a few months of knowing someone nowadays, it doesn’t feel like it fits Gabriela’s character at all. When focusing on Bode’s prison stay, we see letters sent to him from Gabriela. Even assuming they’re from the very beginning of his sentence, it means she still got into a relationship with Diego within a month of Bode’s departure, which doesn’t fit her character.
That said, as a long-time Dynasty fan, I’m excited to see Rafael as a new addition to the cast and cannot wait to see what he brings to the character.
Overall, Fire Country‘s Season 2 premiere is a solid introduction to the season that perfectly ties up any loose ends and answers any lingering questions from the Season 1 finale.
