‘Wizards of Waverly Place’ Sequel Series Is Coming to Disney Channel
Believe it! Everything is what it seems because a Wizards of Waverly Place sequel series is coming to Disney Channel.
Deadline exclusively reported that Disney Branded Television ordered a pilot for the follow-up to the four-season comedy series. Selena Gomez and David Henrie, who starred in the original series as Alex and Justin Russo, will executive produce the new addition to the Wizards of Waverly Place universe.
Gomez will reprise her iconic role as a guest star in the pilot on Disney Channel. Meanwhile, Henrie joins the sequel series as a series regular alongside new cast members Janice LeAnn Brown, Alkaio Thiele, and Mimi Gianopulos.

Just Roll with It‘s Brown is the new show’s lead — Billie, a powerful young wizard Justin takes under his wing.
The Wizards of Waverly Place sequel series takes place “after a mysterious incident at WizTech, where an adult Justin Russo has left his wizard powers behind, opting for a normal, human life with his wife and two sons,” per its synopsis.
“But he gets a surprise when a powerful young wizard in need of training shows up at his door… and Justin must embrace his past to ensure the future of the Wizard World.”
Thiele stars as Roman Russo, Justin’s oldest son, while Gianopulos will portray Justin’s wife, Giada.
There is no word on whether other Wizards of Waverly Place stars, including Jake T. Austin, Jennifer Stone, Maria Canals-Barrera, and David DeLuis, will return.
Though the original series ended in 2012, the entire ensemble, except for Henrie, reunited for The Wizards Return: Alex vs. Alex in 2013, which Gomez also executive produced.
Jennifer Stone and David DeLuis recently reunited for the Wizards of Waverly Place recap podcast, Wizards of Waverly Pod, from Christy Carlson Romano’s company PodCo. Selena Gomez has been a guest.
Todd J. Greenwald created Wizards of Waverly Place, which premiered in 2007 and aired over 100 episodes on Disney Channel.

Disney Channel posted the front page of the pilot’s script on Instagram. Henrie left a comment that read, “Get ready for the Russo’s to become apart of your family once again, but we’ve grown! 2024, the year 🪄 comes back ;)” The actor shared the same statement on X (formerly Twitter).
Henrie shared the same comment with an announcement video on TikTok. Meanwhile, Gomez confirmed the news through an Instagram story with a photo of her and Henrie from Wizards of Waverly Place with the caption, “We’re back.”
Jed Elinoff and Scott Thomas pen the pilot. The duo is also behind the successful That’s So Raven spinoff series, Raven’s Home.
Elinoff and Thomas, Gary Marsh, and Andy Fickman are also executive producers, with Fickman directing.
