The Chosen Season 3 Episode 5 Review: Clean, Part 2
The Chosen Season 3 Episode 5, “Clean, Part 2,” focuses on the importance of faith. When Jesus raises a young girl from the dead, it is her father’s faith that contributes to the healing.
As the episode begins, a couple of the apostles run into Veronica by following the trail of blood she has left behind. They both show great concern for her well-being, offering to get her a doctor. This poor woman has lost her trust in physicians, as they have all promised to heal her but have failed miserably.
When we put our faith in men and their abilities, we are more often than not let down. Even when what they say comes to fruition, it rarely meets our expectations. Veronica knows this all too well.

Since their original idea is shot down, the two apostles ask if they should bring her to their rabbi, instead. At first mention, Veronica refuses. What is another man going to do except break a couple of well-intended promises?
Prepared to leave her behind, the apostles apologize for bothering her, but before they leave, she realizes they are followers of Jesus. This changes everything.
The word on the street is that Jesus is a true healer. He has healed a crippled man who used to lay poolside, and that gives Veronica faith that maybe she could be healed as well.
Even when we’ve been let down repeatedly, a spark of hope can reignite our passion. What if this is the time it works? What is there to lose?
Now that her interest is sparked, the apostles think twice about how to proceed. According to Jewish custom, the woman is unclean and unable to be touched until the proper timing.
Will her embracing of the Messiah make these matters any different? Is it possible for her to make Jesus unclean?
Veronica has similar fears, but she also has faith. Her faith tells her that even if she is only able to touch the hem of His clothing, she will be healed. The apostles marvel at her faith — while also doubting what she says is true.
Nonetheless, these apostles will not deny this woman her request. If Jesus is willing to see her, who are they to stand in the way?
Jesus: Who touched me?
While this is all taking place, a young girl is lying in bed dying. At only 12 years old, her life is short, and her father will do anything to keep her alive. Although he doesn’t know Jesus personally, he believes in Jesus’ power.
He breaks into the house where Jesus is eating and pleads with Him to come and heal his daughter.

When our faith is strong, we can act boldly. Fear takes a backseat, and courage guides us. The man takes a valiant stance, knowing he is headed in the right direction.
Jesus and the others are astounded by his faith. All this man knows of Jesus is the stories he has been told. This is what faith like a child looks like.
If we could simply have faith like these two people, our lives could be completely changed. Not only would our attitude be adjusted, but we would also impact those around us. Like laughter, faith is contagious.
Jesus tells the man He will visit his daughter and bring her healing. Seconds later the entire city knows what is happening and is eager to see Jesus in action.
This is where both stories collide. The mob gathering around Jesus hinders Veronica from meeting Jesus.
Oftentimes, friends and family can stop us from achieving our goals by talking our faith down and basic disbelief. Fortunately, Veronica doesn’t let these other people bring her down. She struggles desperately, even being called out for being unclean, but she pushes through choosing not to be stricken down by the unkindness of others.
With one final push, Veronica’s fingers graze the cord on Jesus’ robe. Instantly she is healed. The sick 12-year-old girl isn’t as lucky.
The man is crushed. He was so close, but so far away. His faith got him as close as he possibly could.
When we hit the final lap of the race, everything matters on how we proceed. There are two people ahead of you, and they have a great lead. Do you give up and call it a day?
If our faith is real, the answer should be no.

Our faith tells us that even though the odds are stacked against us, our perseverance will pay off.
Jesus breaks through the crowd, grabs the young girl’s hand, and raises her from her deathbed.
Strangely, this resurrection doesn’t have the same emotional impact as Veronica’s healing. Even with two rejoicing parents, their relief doesn’t appear as sincere as Veronica’s.
Nonetheless, these two moments are powerful.
Without faith, we can achieve a few things. We can buy a house, build a family, and have a decent career. But with strong faith, we can affect everyone around us.
Ultimately, our faith becomes our legacy.
A house can burn down, family members die, and careers can come to a screeching halt. Yet our legacy of faith will live forever.
Both of these stories are recorded in the Bible for this reason alone. Their true names are unknown, and even most of the details of their lives, but their faith legacy is astounding.
