Futurama Renewed for Two More Seasons on Hulu
Futurama is coming back for Seasons 13 and 14 on Hulu.
The animated series’ two-season renewal will contain 20 episodes in total. Futurama‘s previously announced Season 12 is expected to debut in 2024.
The news comes after Hulu originally revived Futurama in 2022 with a 20-episode order after it ended with Season 10 in 2013.
The Emmy Award-winning show, created by Matt Groening and developed by Groening and David X. Cohen, originally premiered in 1999, with its initial run on Fox Broadcasting Network. Futurama had four successful direct-to-DVD releases from 2007-2008, spurring the show’s revival on Comedy Central from 2010-2013.
Futurama “follows Philip J. Fry, a New York City pizza delivery boy, who accidentally freezes himself in 1999 and gets defrosted in the year 3000. In this astonishing New New York, he befriends hard-drinking robot Bender and falls in love with cyclops Leela,” per its official synopsis.
“The trio find work at the Planet Express Delivery Company, founded by Fry’s doddering descendant, Professor Hubert Farnsworth. Together with accountant Hermes Conrad, assistant Amy Wong, and alien lobster Dr. John Zoidberg, they embark on thrilling adventures that take them to every corner of the universe.”
After a decade and a massive presence at San Diego Comic-Con, the beloved series returned with Futurama Season 11 Episode 1, “The Impossible Stream,” on Monday, July 24, 2023. The season ended with Futurama Season 11 Episode 10, “All the Way Down,” in September.
This new season brings back the original cast and “is certified fresh on Rotten Tomatoes at 86%, and was on Nielsen’s Top 10 Original Series List for six of the weeks during its run,” per Hulu. The streaming service promotes Futurama Season 11 as a pick-up spot for long-time fans and a great place to start for new ones.
Futurama stars John DiMaggio, Billy West, Katey Sagal, Tress MacNeille, Maurice LaMarche, Lauren Tom, Phil LaMarr, and David Herman.
Groening, Cohen, Ken Keeler, and Claudia Katz executive produce the show.
Futurama is a part of Hulu’s Animayhem brand, a sub-brand the streamer launched in July.
