Dancing with the Stars Season 32 Episode 2 Recap: Latin Night
Now that we’re in Week 2, the competition is taking off. Dancing with the Stars Season 32 Episode 2 is Latin Night, and the celebrities brought some really fun performances.
A few of those performances even showed major improvements from Week 1.
The night featured an opening number to “DESPECHÁ” by ROSALÍA, choreographed by pros Daniella Karagach and Pasha Pashkov. Partner dances included the Cha Cha, Rumba, Salsa, Samba, and Tango.
Here are a few of the highlights from the competition this week:
Lele Pons and her partner Brandon kicked off the night with a captivating Samba that Derek Hough called “spicy” and “a great way to start off Latin Night.”
Bruno agreed and noted that it’s now time for Lele to work on polish and details. Meanwhile, Carrie Ann applauded Brandon for the choreography and a great dance overall. They earned a score of 21 out of 30.
Tyson Beckford was excited to represent his Latin roots this week. He and Jenna danced a salsa, and all of the judges applauded what a major improvement Tyson made this week.
Not only did the dance play to Tyson’s literal strengths, but he seemed more comfortable on stage and hit his marks well. Derek also noted that Tyson was a great partner to Jenna, which is important in ballroom dancing. They earned a score of 18.
Barry Williams brought an energetic performance once again this week. He and Peta danced a Cha Cha that didn’t go over quite as well with the judges, but the audience showed him plenty of love and booed the comments they received.
Mira Sorvino and Gleb danced a Salsa that honored a close friend of Mira’s who passed away recently. The judges commented on Mira’s natural ability as a dancer. They earned a score of 18.
Xochitl and Val wowed the judges in a big way with their routine, with Carrie Ann likening Xochitl to a “young Rita Moreno.” They earned a score of 24 — the highest score of the competition so far.
Later in the evening, however, another couple tied that high score. Jason Mraz and Daniella got a standing ovation and earned a score of 24 as well.
Alyson Hannigan was applauded for her improvement from Week 1, with a fierce tango performed with her partner, Sasha. Carrie Ann said it best when she told Alyson, “That was a woman empowered.”
Charity couldn’t dance with her usual partner this week, because Artem tested positive for COVID. Ezra Sosa filled in as her partner for a Cha Cha to “She Bangs” which did not disappoint.
This was also Ezra’s first dance as a pro. They earned a score of 21.
The results were a bit of a whirlwind, and I’ll say again how much I miss separate results shows. Those were the days.
The couple going home this week feels like a bit of a shocker. Jamie Lynn Spears was eliminated.
Speaking of things I miss, it’s a shame the judges don’t have their save any longer this season. It’s also wild that voting only takes place during the show.
In the early years, it was harder to vote, sure, but it would be nice if viewers had a longer period of time to weigh in each week.
Here are this week’s scores:
- Xochitl Gomez and Val: 24
- Jason Mraz and Daniella: 24
- Lele Pons and Brandon: 21
- Charity Lawson and Ezra: 21
- Ariana Madix and Pasha: 20
- Alyson Hannigan and Sasha: 19
- Mira Sorvino and Gleb: 18
- Tyson Beckford and Jenna: 18
- Jamie Lynn Spears and Alan: 16 — ELIMINATED
- Barry Williams and Peta: 15
- Adrian Peterson and Britt: 15
- Harry Jowsey and Rylee: 15
- Mauricio Umansky and Emma: 12
