‘Tomb Raider: The Legend of Lara Croft’ First Look Released by Netflix
The Tomb Raider Universe is expanding with an upcoming anime series on Netflix.
With Hayley Atwell voicing the titular role, Tomb Raider: The Legend of Lara Croft is on track for a 2024 release date, per TV Line.
Netflix unveiled the news during its first-ever DROP 01, a virtual showcase featuring the digital, three-episode premiere of Castlevania: Nocturne and celebrating its anime shows. The global livestream featured many surprise announcements, including a Devil May Cry series based on the popular video game.
Produced by Legendary Television with Crystal Dynamics and animated by Powerhouse Animation, Tomb Raider: The Legend of Lara Croft picks up after the events of Tomb Raider‘s successful Survivor video game trilogy — 2013’s Tomb Raider, 2015’s Rise of the Tomb Raider, and 2018’s Shadow of the Tomb Raider.
The action-adventure animated series is not based on any of the live-action movies (2001’s Lara Croft: Tomb Raider, 2003’s Lara Croft: Tomb Raider — The Cradle of Life, or 2018’s Tomb Raider) in which Alicia Vikander plays the titular hero. The character has had many actresses voice her in the video games.
Tomb Raider: The Legend of Lara Croft tells the heroine’s globetrotting next chapter, 25 years after her first game appeared.
The one-minute teaser trailer sees Lara Croft in action and taking her next shot but doesn’t hear Atwell voice the characters.
TV Line reports that Allen Maldonado will voice “Lara’s tech expert and colleague Zip,” and Earl Baylon will reprise his role as “one of Lara’s most-trusted friends,” Jonah Maiava from the video games.
Tasha Huo is the showrunner on Tomb Raider: The Legend of Lara Croft.
Netflix also released new teasers and trailers for SONIC CRIME, Sonic Prime Dash, Blue Eye Samurai, and PLUTO.
The streaming service also unveiled a new look at Captain Laserhawk: A Blood Dragon Remix, premiering on Thursday, October 19, Scott Pilgrim Takes Off, premiering on Friday, November 17, and Masters of the Universe: Revolution, coming to Netflix in 2024.
